  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My step-daughter started shaving her legs about a month or two ago. She is 12 (she will be 13 next month). I think the main reason she wanted to start was because "all of her friends" had been shaving their legs and they were asking her why she didn't. Based on her physical development, it seemed like a reasonable thing for her to start doing. She's relatively careful and didn't complain about cutting herself (her mom helped her learn, but she would have said something if it was an issue) so we haven't seen any blood - I can understand your concern about that though. Best of luck with this transition. :)

My dd was also 12 when she started shaving. Around that age, it becomes a matter of keeping them from getting made fun of in the locker room and gym class at school. It also depends on your dd's physical maturity level. My dd is a little behind most of the other girls and may have started later than them. It is a judgement call that you need to make based on your own daughter's needs. Good luck.

My dd is only 5 months. But I will be advising on something other than shaving. My mom used to do sugaring (a but like waxing but with sugar paste and hurts less) so that is he road I will go down with her.

If she is very dark like me then I think around the 12/13 year old mark. If she is very fair then I would of thought later.

I was 11 or younger. I already had dark hair and was getting made fun of. I didn't cut myself at all the first time, and not until like after a week of shaving. My mom based it purely on developement. She said whenever we started looking more like adults, had our period, boobs, etc. I had a friend who didn't get her period until a senior in highschoool, and didn't start shaving until almost a freshman.

I'd rather they shave early rather than prevent them from, you know?I also had a friend that WAS very hairy, but her mom said she HAD to be 16. So she had some of the hairiest armpits you could imagine on a girl. I felt so awful for her.

I was 10, but I developed a lot younger than most of my peers. The hair on my legs was blonde, but they were pretty hairy. My mom had me use my dad's old razors once they were too dull for him and I never cut or knicked myself.

My cousin, who is 10 months my junior, begged her mom to let her shave when she found out I was shaving. But, her hair was light and super-fine, so there wasn't really a need for it. I think she shaved a handful of times then got bored with the idea. lol

I'm going to base it on need/puberty and only somewhat on social/peer pressure. Mostly on need/puberty, though.

i think i was in highschool when i started shaving..or 13 maybe..if you're worried about cuts, an electric razor is a good idea, or you can have her try those mitt things that you just rub circles and supposedly it removes the hair..if nothing else, they make your legs soft by removing dead skin cells lol
