  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I never heard of it either Lily, till a couple of years ago. I was amazed at how many women actually shave their arms, and other places that I wouldn't even waste my time on! However, I have had hairy arms since I was young, and I have dark hair. Well, one day at work a supervisor and I were at the fax machine and he proceeds to touch my arm and say "I think that's sexy, the hair." Well, I went home and used hubby's trimmer and have been ever since. I don't like the undue attention, which I'm sure is mostly negative. I'm self-conscious as it is. I don't know why I am "hairy" either cuz my nationality is German, Irish and English. Ya know, it's mainly a culture thing though because in lots of other countries they are not obssessed with being free of body hair like Americans. Truthfully, I resent it because I don't want to be laying on my death bed and thinking about all the time I spent with razors and waxes. I prefer to do better things with my time. I dunno.

The stubble is not all that bad. The key is just to trim, not shave it smooth as a baby's hiney. But yeah, it sure beats walking around with overly hairy arms and seeing people notice them and being uncomfortable. Unless you are a strong person who just don't care what others think (I envy you) but I like the look of less-hairy arms in the summertime:)

He sounds really creepy - poor you!

If it's any consolation to you I'm not American, I'm Irish, and in my country it's also pretty much taboo to have any body hair (if you're female that is).

I don't resent having to shave/wax/epilate/whatever at all. If I see body hair on a girl or woman I think it's gross, so others probably would think the same of me. It's like a person having BO from not showering/using deoderant, or bad breath from not brushing their teeth - it's inconsiderate towards other people to let yourself get hairy, so I make sure I stay smooth.

I can understand different cultures thinking it's strange e.g. I think not shaving your armpits is nasty. But inconsiderate? Please.... Wrong choice of words, don't your think?

And bad breath & BO are hygiene issues, not shaving your arms is not. Apples to oranges comparision...

I am most definitely an arm shaver! For me, it's not that I have hairy, horrible arms....I just prefer the feel of smooth skin after you've shaved them. Shave, moisturize, and you're good to go. Just make sure you keep up with it. As with your legs, the prickly feeling is not pleasant....and it looks weird.

My arm hair is white and barely noticeable. If I had dark hair, I might try lightening it up with lemon juice or peroxide or something rather than shaving. If it was really thick, I'd look into having it permanently removed. I don't think hairy knuckles are cute either. (sorry)

I recall the Outback Jack show--where they took 'Jack' to a salon and had hair removed from his stomach; it looked painful when they ripped off those strips in one swift motion, but he did look good when his 'treatment' was done!

im afriad if i shave my arms they will grow back thick and dark, right now you cant see mine because they are blonde, so that could be why people dont do it. that is a major up keep to keeping them shaved after you start to do so.

Okay, I'm a guy, so I'm probably not even invited to this dance, but the whole arm hair thing made me think of when I went to Jamaica to meet my new wife's family. I'm a midwestern moderately hairy white guy; they're all black smooth Jamaicans. My nieces just marvel at the hair on my arms, and will sit and pet it like they're petting a dog.

So hey, some people don't think it's gross at all. :)

They also think the fact that my hair is very stylable when wet is quite entertaining...
