  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

another interesting factoid, if I were to get "attacked" according to some handy dandy research all I have to do is punch the shark on the nose and it'll totally distract the shark from attacking...

I am an advanced underwater diver with PADI. I got certified in 1996. I've been to Hawaii, the Caymans, Roatan Island, and place near Trinidad.

Starting out it was a bit unnerving. I typically don't get claustrophobic and it wasn't a big issue (I did a ledge dive in Hawaii that required going through a tunnel. I had been diving awhile by then and it wasn't scary.)

As far as the initial cert. process. Know the dive tables and time chart. That was the only thing I had trouble studying. The cert. also requires you to float for 10 minutes by yourself. I can't float on my back so it was hard for me.

Overall, diving is really fun. I haven't been in many years ut I hope to again. I signed up for a shark dive in Grand Cayman. It is a thrill. In truth, sharks are more cauitous of you than you are of them. Shark dives by nature and very structured and they leader wouldn't put you in danger on purpose.

I have been bitten by a shark while snorkelling but not serious. It coulda been worse. I was almost bitten by another on the same trip, a mean old bull shark.
The one that did bite me was more of a self defense I think I stepped on it.
YOu know hoe Nurse sharks like to lay down in the sand? I didn't see it.
I have been in the water with up to ten sharks within view and also Barracudas of different sizes. It can be quite scary yet exciting.
I don't scuba though, only snorkel.

Reminds me of a story I heard in the news about a year or two ago. Forgive me if some of the details are a bit off (no pun intended!).

It seems an Austrailian man was bitten by a shark, but the shark wouldn't let go. Fortunately it was a small shark, and he was able to swim to shore. Back on land, he worked to free himself of its pitbull grasp. Unfortunately, even after repeated attempts, he was unable to dislodge his toothy attacker. The man's efforts only seemed to tear up his leg (where the shark had affixed itself), so he ended up driving (with shark) several hours to an hospital where doctors promptly euthanized the shark and successfully removed it . As far as I'm aware, the fellow suffered no permanent harm.

Glad it wasn't that serious despite given all the shark attacks these days that are happening!
