  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Psalm 106:1 Praise the LORD!
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
2 Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the LORD,
Or can show forth all His praise?
3 How blessed are those who keep justice,
Who practice righteousness at all times!

Psalm 106:7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders;
They did not remember Your abundant kindnesses,
But rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
8 Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name,
That He might make His power known.
9 Thus He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up,
And He led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.
10 So He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them,
And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11 The waters covered their adversaries;
Not one of them was left.

Luke 1:68 "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,
69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of David His servant--
70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old--
71 Salvation FROM OUR ENEMIES,
And FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;

Hebrews 2:14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He[Jesus] Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.

IF WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE AND NOT BY WORKS, WHERE DOES PERSEVERANCE COME IN?

James 5:10-11 . . . We give great honor to those who endure under suffering.

Perseverance in good works does not produce salvation.
Rather, perseverance results from our faith in God.

2 Peter 1:5-8 . . . Patient endurance leads to godliness.

The Christian life begins with faith but grows through perseverance.

James 1:2-4 . . . When your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

Perseverance is what turns suffering into maturity.

I pray we together may know.....

what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
Ephesians 1:19-21

Matthew 8:17 . . .
This fulfilled the word of the LORD
through Isaiah, who said,
“HE took our sicknesses and
removed our diseases.”

Revelation 21:4 . . .
HE will remove all of their sorrows,
and there will be no more death or
sorrow or crying or pain. For the
old world and its evils are gone forever.

Our compassionate, Merciful GOD has full authority over all sickness.
HE can heal whomever HE chooses. HE can grant HIS Authority to
heal to whomever HE chooses. Eventually, HE will remove all
sickness and suffering from all of HIS Children for Eternity.
Sometimes HE chooses not to heal a person, even a devout Christian.
We do not understand why, but someday we will understand.

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.

Amen.... I 100% agree.

Great post.
He has a plan for everything, including a physical thorn or hardship. I feel that the more I have personally suffered, He has been able to come in an comfort me and reveal Himself to me in more intimate ways than if I had not suffered anything.

But, in eternity, everything will be made known!Amen!

Thank-you Shulamite, When I see others suffer or I'm suffering, these Scriptures come to mind in my long range goal of what I can expect from HIS Promises.

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.
If any man love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world,

the lust of the flesh,

and
the lust of the eyes,

and
the pride of life,

is not of the Father, but is of the world.

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof:
but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.

I agree with the two of you and am often comforted with these verses as I meditate upon the sufferings of our Lord...even God's Son who never sinned...which I cannot say about myself. God did have a purpose in Christ's suffering, somehow I come to a small understanding of His suffering with my own trials and they certainly work humility into my life.

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him: he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

He shall see the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied:

1 Chronicles 16:29 . . .
Give to the LORD the Glory HE Deserves!
Bring your Offering and come to Worship HIM.
Worship the LORD in all HIS Holy Splendor.

Psalm 145:3 . . .
Great is the LORD! HE is Most Worthy of Praise!
HIS Greatness is Beyond Discovery!

Worship is the recognition of who
GOD is, and of who we are in relation
to HIM.

Exodus 29:43 . . .
I will meet the people of Israel there,
and the Tabernacle will be sanctified
by My Glorious Presence.

GOD meets with HIS People in a
Powerful Way when they worship
HIM together.

Deuteronomy 31:11 . . .
You must read this law to all the people of Israel
when they assemble before the Lord your God at
the place he chooses.

Isaiah 6:3 . . .
In a great chorus they sang,
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty!
The whole earth is filled with HIS Glory!”

Isaiah 63:15-16 . . .
LORD, look down from Heaven and see us
from Your Holy, Glorious Home.

GOD, who is Holy and Glorious, lives in Heaven,
HIS Home, which is Holy and Glorious.
To Live There, we must somehow rid sin from
our lives and become Sanctified People.
This is Accomplished Through the Great Work that CHRIST did on the Cross.
