The art is nearly photographic in quality. It is excellent.

The kind of art is called vexel, used to create pictures that look realistic.

One of my own vexel pieces. Vexel is created using the line tool in a paint program and pushing the line until it is right curvature. It creates very smooth lines.

This picture is free hand. Note the lines are not as smooth.

Very impressive...

Thanks! :grinning: Incidentally, I only started using Aquila's current eye design at the beginning of this year; her eye had a much less realistic design before, because I've always found eyes tricky to get right.

These are beautiful! I can see what you mean about the smooth vexel lines versus the less smooth freehand drawing lines. I have the same thing happen when I draw freehand with pencil. On my computer, I have to use the line tool - carefully - to get really neat, smooth lines since if I try to draw freehand with any of the brush, pen, or pencil tools, I get rather wobbly lines. The fact that I'm using my mouse for digital art (I don't have a drawing tablet) doesn't make it any easier.

Love the art. What method / program / pc do you use to create them?

Thanks! I use Corel PhotoPaint to make my artworks; I use modified (usually heavily) stock/Commons photos as the basis for my backgrounds, and for wind-driven snow/blizzard snow, I use a rain effect and a snow effect which come with Corel PhotoPaint together. I have Aquila drawn separately, on a plain white background, and I copy-paste her into the finished background, removing the white background from round her by selecting it then making it transparent. I then adjust the lighting/shading on Aquila as necessary, and use the airbrush tool for her afterburner flames. For the light reflected on Aquila's tails from her afterburner flames, I again use the airbrush tool (Corel PhotoPaint has a lighting effects section in one of the menus, but I find it easier to use the airbrush tool), at the same using the mask tool to ensure that I don't get the colours where I don't want them.

Thanks! I forgot to mention that, to do Aquila's eyeshine (in the latest piece that I posted), I selected just her pupil using the mask tool. I then used the colour hue section in one of the menus to change the colour of her pupil to green with a hint of yellow. I then used the lighting effects section to add a bright yellow-green light, to give a shine like one would see in, for example, a cat's, dog's, or owl's eye when a light - such as a torch or car headlights - shines on them at night.
