lookingupto, I said I have a morbid fascination with spiders, lol. It's kind of a love/hate relationship. I respect them, and think they are cool, yet at the same time am afraid of them. The only spider I would EVER consider having as a pet would be a tarantula, since they are relatively tame and don't make sudden movements. Spiders that make sudden movements make my skin crawl.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a problem with "BUGS"!!!!

I was working as a summer intern at the Brooklyn Teen Challenge.  They warned me about the size of the roaches there.  I figured I've seen large roaches before, what's the big deal.  If I only knew.

I was in the kitchen when I saw one.  I screamed and ran from the kitchen. Told the staff, "that's not a roach, that's a MONSTER!!!"  After that, I would not enter a room before checking the floor.  Then they informed me that these roaches flew.  After that, I would not enter a room before checking the floor and the air.  I would tap on the light switch before actually turning it on, just in case a roach decided to rest right on it.  Oh yea, I refused to drink water for about 3 hours before going to bed.  If I had to get up to make a midnight trip, there would always be a couple of roaches on the floor, and a one or two on the shower curtin.  That was a summer of terror.  I didn't worry about the drug dealers and the criminal element in New York like a lot of people do. My main concern was the Teen Challenge pets.  That's what I dubbed them.

I just posted one reply, but didn't want to make it too long, so decided to put my other "Encounter of the Bug Kind" on another post.

The previous one was my experience at the Brookly Teen Challenge.  My second adventure in terror was at another Teen Challenge in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

I enjoyed being alone late at night in the living room enjoying a nice program on TV, but was always haunted by our visitor, flying roaches about 5 inches long, maybe more.

One particular experience stands out.  I was sitting in the room with one of the female students who just graduated.  We had the TV on but our eyes were focused higher.  It was a ledge up at the ceiling.  We would see that critter's head sticking out, and could also see the antennaes.  It suddenly flew off its perch.  We both screamed and made a bee  line to the bathroom and shut the door.  Thank God none of our "friends" were . there.

Another time I saw a huge spider on the wall.  I can deal with microscopic spiders, but this one must have been about 8 - 9 inches long with the legs included in the measurement.  Had to get a 17 year old student to kill it for me.  Whew!!! That was close.
