  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's not our fault during the war of 1812 we sent the American army back so fast they forgot to take their culture with them.:p

Well.... I would never say "we", because Canada didn't actually exist back then... More like the British send the American army back so fast that they forgot to take their culture with them... not to mention the fact that they burnt down the White House...

you know, I would almost take offense at that, if not for the mutual rise of moral depravity in both countries.... and don't forget... we have rednecks scattered about, while you have all your Newfies in one place, and people that act like Newfies that live elsewhere, or worse, come down here and are the only representatives some folks will ever see of Canada.....

Canada did exist back then, just as England's pet nation..... and in reality neither side won the war of 1812...... both paid a high price in blood and it ended in a truce.... Canada still pays homage to the British in words, if not in obedience any more.......

Im all for abolishing the monarchy, and eliminating the Govenor General, and taking the Queen off our money. We owe Britain nothing anymore.

And nah Canada won War of 1812, i said so lol.

Woah woah waoh... we don't owe britain anything anymore? Common, they practically give us their junky submarines  However, with our crummy military here, we need their allegiance, and to abolish the monarchy may turn out disastrous. Heh... I say get rid of the constitution and become a colony of Britain again! or not....

What do we need a military for...Canada has no threats we can't take care on our own. It's not like the US is going to invade Alberta for oil lol.

Being a monarchy affects Canada's political system more than you might think. For starters, this means that Canadians do not get to elect their Nation's Head of State. It is a little odd for Canada's Head of State to live in a foreign nation and only visit every four or five years, so we have the Governor General here looking out for Canada's interest, within British interest. We don't really need that anymore. We can look after our own affairs.

To have an elected Governor General would completely change the political system in Canada though. Furthermore, I think it would make the system incredibly unstable. We'd probably be having elections all the time as a result. Of course, right now we are in a political situation where we are having elections almost every two years, but that's just becuase of the economy and the stupid Liberals (common conservatives... get a majority!!!!) I think we need to get rid of the stupid Charter, in my opinion. It's honestly the worst document for Canada, and it has also screwed up relations with Quebec. We don't need an elected Governor-General. Common Prince Harry, save us from ourselves!
