I watched it again last night.
There are some things that stood out in this movie.
- The tribute to Bruce Lee. Even when he was being taken away, he stuck on the glasses and did a pose that Mr. Lee did, with his hand on his chest. Then the lead actor said "you're not with us in body, but you will always be with us in spirit".
- I haven't studied all of the characters, but it appears that each one has a concentrated human quality.
1. Iron Leg was a passionate dreamer who believed in himself.
2. Iron Head was a down to earth guy who thought that chasing dreams was very foolish.
3. Mui (the kung fu lady) represented some sort of self ugliness, low self esteem. In the beginning she was ugly, but she changed through out the movie with confidence. The shaving of her head was the ultimate symbol of her losing her fears, because she always hid behind her hair.
4. Light Weight (the fat brother) represented self control, or in his case the lack there of. He called it "a disease", because like a disease he felt that he had no control over it.
5. Iron Shirt (business man) He lived his life to make money, and felt that was the reason for living. He was also is self denial, atleast with his family. He told many lies to his brother about what he was doing. Just so he can keep up an image of being a success. He also was very blunt, and spoke his mind.
6. The Goalie Brother, he was the selfish one. He wouldn't let his own brother in the house. And if he talked to you, it was because he wanted something. He didn't speak his mind, but used manipulation to try and get what he wanted.
7. Hooking Leg represented stress and fustration in life. He was going bald and old, and still washing dishes. He was also a smoker, which helps define his "stress" quality.
The underlying theme is to believe in yourself, and go after your dreams.
