• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I don't know how else to confess this:

I was masturbating in bed. Whenever I do shameful things, my OCD hits me.

One of the things I was kinda repeated in my head for this was "I don't damn my soul to hell, I don't damn my soul to hell..."

But when the "moment" happened it then turned out to become "I damn myself wholly to hell..."

My OCD worry has spiked. I thne prayed to God for forgiveness and said to Him that I didn't mean.

I know God won't damn me, but.....will He?

You aren't going to hell for a sin since Jesus died to take the punishment for it. I mean, that's the core of the Christian faith. All are sinners, but despite our sinfulness, we can have a relationship with God and go to heaven if we accept Him. People aren't damned to hell for going five miles an hour over the speed limit, and you're not damned to hell for masturbating.

Think of in the past times when you've said stuff like that. Were things okay afterwards? Well then things will be okay this time too. That's the bad part about OCD. Every new spike is like the last, but it's just different enough to trigger that fear. I'm praying for you.

That's a great point. I know that that's one of the ways I was able to get my OCD thoughts get better. I'd think back and tell myself that nothing happened then, so I know that this time, it was just OCD.

Hi Dave,

I have OCD, and struggled with similar anxieties. The Bible nowhere says masturbation is a sin. Almost everybody does it. It's like using the restroom. People do it when they feel the urgency, but don't generally discuss it at the dinner table, but that doesn't make it shameful. Years of meds have helped me with this and other issues.
