  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good evening my friends - I'm back from vacation  . Was a lovely, restful time away. The view from our apartment was superb as always and on Wednesday afternoon there was the most stunning sunset. When I get my film developed I'll post a couple of pics. One bad thing was on the block of land next to where we were staying a new block of holiday apartments was being built. It was noisy from 6:30am - 4:00pm six days a week (the workmen didn't work Sundays and one Wednesday which was a public holiday).

Peace & Blessings

I'm so disappointed. It's the last day of classes at the University and I just recieved another jury summons in the mail. I feel like crying.
Hope you're all feeling better than I am. :(

I wrote to my Congressperson about being called so often. They seem to love to pick on college students, and those who can not afford down time from their studies. At least you won't have classes on this one? Still, I think if they call a person more frequently than every five years, it is way too much. What about all of the people I know who have never served!!??!!

Aww Kwizz I'm sorry you're not feeling too good  . In Australia we have a thing called Jury Duty where if you're on the Electoral Roll from time to time you can receive a letter in the mail asking you to participate on a jury. However it isn't compulsary and you can say no . Is a jury summons similar or is it something else? I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Hey Shadow,
A jury summons is similiar to that, but we can't really say no. We can write a letter to the judge appealing to be let out of jury duty if we have a good excuse (the judge is often mean and says no, even if you have a good excuse) but we can't just decide we don't want to and just tell them no. In fact if you forget that you have jury duty, they'll send a police man to your house to pick you up and escort you to the court house... They're that serious about it.
So... I'm not happy, but I'll be fine as long as they don't actually put me on the jury. :)
Talk to you later.

Yes, this time it won't interfere with my classes, but it's still annoying. And I agree, they do pick on students. They seem to think that because the teachers can't hold it against us it doesn't matter if we miss a few classes, but what they don't understand is we still have to make up homework and assignments that we missed because of jury duty... it's not like the teachers are just going to let you skip an assignment and erase it completely from your grade... it doesn't work that way!
I wrote a letter the first time I was called (to the judge) because it was the second week of school and I knew I was going to be missing vitally important information in my classes, but they still told me I had to be there... The second time I was called was during Spring Break... And now, as soon as school gets out, they summon me again...
My time runs out in June though, so hopefully they won't be able to squeeze another summons in before then... hopefully.
God bless!

Hey Kwizz, that's no good - hope it works out for you and that you don't end up on the jury :)

Hi 'cat!
love-hug5.gif

It's good to see you back, my dear friend!!

Hi kwizzi!
11_2_104.gif

A few of my co-workers have been called to jury duty. The two that are very strongly opinionated...stronger penalties for criminals, death penalty, no parole, etc. have not been called again for many years now. One of the others that is very neutral has been called many times. They claim it is random, but just like everything else with the political & judicial systems, I don't think that is entirely true. I think they throw names out as "not good candidates for jury duty" & then pick from the "good" ones for duty. Maybe you should be flattered?!??

LOL :D Maybe I should be... Last time though, I specifically stated that I thought something was "wrong" when they asked me a kwestion about it, and... I think that might have been what go me excused... So, I hope this time I'm not one of the ones in the first pick for the jury, last time I was, the time before that I wasn't... So we'll see. :)
