  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What would be considered sexual sin in Christianity? I know having sex to have babies would be fine. Adultery is stated wrong. But what about a married couple who are just feeling in the mood? Would that be a sin? Any biblical evidence?
MY FRIEND,

Biblically speaking, there is NO sexual sin attributable to private consensual sexual relations between a married couple.

Biblically speaking, all types of sex are sinful outside of marriage. That includes things like foreplay, touching yourself, etc. Inside of marriage, sex is perfectly acceptable, not just for reproduction, but also to show love and affection to your spouse. God made sex as a good thing, and it's supposed to be enjoyed between husband and wife. To pervert it by doing those things outside of marriage is sinful, but it is a good thing to make love to your spouse.

^ They are both right. I thought I'd also give you some Biblical verses to show that these beliefs aren't just convenient inventions :)

Proverbs 5:18: May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.

Song of Solomon 1:2-4: Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is more delightful than wine. Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; your name is like perfume poured out. No wonder the maidens love you! Take me away with you—let us hurry! Let the king bring me into his chambers.

If you want to be shocked in a good way, read the Song of Solomon (also called the Song of Songs) in its entirety. It's not too long. You can find it here: Song of Solomon 1 NIV

The whole thing is basically a hymn to married sex, and it's interpreted as a metaphor for Jesus' love for the Church (the Church is often referred to metaphorically as the Bride of Christ, and Christ as the Bridegroom).

Christianity is not a Law based religion. 'All things are permissible, not all things are beneficial'. Man knows good from bad. The Spirit of God enables people to do good. Anything done outside of faith, in lack of confidence, is sinful.

So judge matters for yourself, what is right and what is wrong.

I always love asking for biblical evidence

Read Song of Songs - does it sound like creating babies is their primary intent?

In Protestantism, sex for pleasure is also appropriate and accepted. Catholics just believe sex is for procreation.

Hey Supreme, I'm not a RC, but I do know the RCC teaches "Natural Family Planning" ... so it is incorrect to say that they believe that sex within a marriage is only for procreation.

Yours and His,
David

Yeah, Supreme, it's more of a "sanctity of life" issue than a "sex is only for babies" issue. So the RCC (as far as I understand) asks people to use Natural Family Planning and not other contraceptives, which they believe are abortifacient. But they hold the pleasure of married sex to be something holy and good. (as far as I understand. RCCers please correct me.)

That would not be sinful. In fact, it's recommended for married couples in 1 Corinthians 7:2-5, as well as the other references that have already been mentioned.
