  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have you guys heard about these? A new fad is going around called sex bracelets. They are different colored jelly bracelets. Each color stands for a different color sex act. If a member of the opposite sex breaks one of the bracelets, you have to give them that sex act. A teacher at our church informed us of them last night. She has a fifth grade student that was wearing them. They are being banned from some schools.

I have heard that this is an urban legend.
From the Snopes site
Since writing our original article, we've heard from hundreds of folks. The adults who've written almost always say their kids are never going to wear those bracelets again. On the other hand, almost without exception, the middle- and high-school kids from all across the US. express shock that the adults would think they were actually obeying this "code" and disappointment in their elders for failing to understand the bracelets are no more than a cool fashion accessory that has attracted a silly rumor.

My high school son says none of his friends put any belief into that.

I heard about it a couple of years ago but it seemed to be one of those things
like "you touched his shirt, now you gotta kiss him!" "cooties" . . . . nothing that I've seen indicated any 'evidence' that it was a brokered deal or that there was much in the way of follow through...more a kids game (sad as it may sound), but most of the kids around here think its 'stupid'......

Actually I distinctly remember watching a talk show about this very issue. I also worked w/ the youth at my last church, and know it's not just a myth.

What I said was that most of it is not actual sex acts taking place or resulting in it. And for those of whom it is, they are into sex, its not the result of some bracelet and then someone forcing them to have sex to follow through with it. Oh,let me go back and get it - this is what I said: (adding emphasis)

Are there cases where kids are using this as a impetus to engage in sex acts - sure. Again, I see those kids being ones that didn't need a bracelet, and I liken the whole thing to spin the bottle, or what was that closet game - 7 minutes in heaven? Something like that.

And all of it QUITE sad. :( Little do kids know what they are doing to themselves and to each other.

I used to wear those things whilst at school...lots of people did, we'd have them all linked together going up our forearms. They were just plastic, colourful bracelets to us though. A couple of kids would say about the whole "sex bracelet" thing (i.e. the each colour standing for something different/if someone breaks it they have to do that thing) but it was taken as a joke. It was seen as something silly, a bit naughty and something that was never acted out....no one even agreed on what each of the different colours stood for, if you asked 20 different kids you'd get 25 different answers lol. So I wouldn't read to much into this, I really doubt any of the kids are taking it seriously...none of the people I knew did.

I was referring to the "snopes" reference;)
AHHHHh, OK....this forum format isn't all that user friendly in some ways with the way the posts go, they're not really threaded well and you can't see whos read what or to whom you are replying....I figured since you linked off me you were addressing me! SORRY!!!

Thanks for the correction.

I remember first hearing about these bracelets on Oprah's show...and she interviewed several teen girls as well as teen mentors/counsellors and they all said this is very much a real thing taking place. I was appauled by it as I am sure many others were (are). It really is sad that there would be such an "advertisement" or a sense amongst teens that they have to do these types of things to be accepted. But, knowledge is power and hopefully this "trend" will be banned wherever it is going on. Our teens/kids face enough challenges, temptations and pressures without this added "bracelet" bragging about what they've "done" or would be expected to "do" if they received one from some boy. Thanks for posting this though...because I'm sure there may be some parents who had no idea about this "dangerous trend."

We have so much to protect our children from. I am praying my daughter and son will remain pure until marriage. My daughter 11 1/2 and I have talked many times. You know one of her 6th grade classmates has told her that she (my daughter) will not be able to control it, she will have sex before marriage. My daughter says she won't because with God she will be strong and she wants to wait.

I think they become what we make them become. I told my daughter she should wear:

Red: Jesus blood
Yellow: Streets of gold
White: Washed white as snow
Blue: Heaven
Green: Green meadows

Etc......

I bought some for my daughter for Christmas and they have sparkels in them. She said if they are sparkely then that discounts what the cetain colors call for.

I think it's rather pointless to ban them from schools, etc. If it's not jelly bracelets, it'll be something else like colors of fingernail polish, or shoe laces, or ponytail holders. I've never heard of the trend, so JMO.

Whatever the case is, that kids this young even know what some of those acts are is disturbing...beyond that, that some may even practice such things...quite sad. I blame the older generation(s) for setting an evil example. (Not to say there aren't those who are setting a good example...just that there are enough setting a bad example...plus the media...it's just terrible)
