Sewing with a twist.

Alright.
I am a memebr of the SCA.
I have sewn a tunic, an under tunic, and a hood.

But now, my wifes sewing machine has broke.
So I will be doing it the old fashion way.
Needle and thread.

Anyone else hand sew?

I hand sewed everthing (skirts, dresses, etc.) until a few months ago when I got a sewing machine set up.

i don't sew, period. i'm hoping that i get a sewing machine for my birthday so i can design my own scrubs and maybe open a little shop one day!

There are books on the topic, Billnew... that teach the method.

I've been interested it starting this, as it was once an 'art form' that is not being well preserved today. Some of the finer designers used this method.

That sounds fascinating, but time consuming. I have an old treadle that I like to use now and then. My sewing machine is currently in storage, so I do repairs by hand. When I get my sewing machine set up again, then I plan on doing larger projects.

Hi, Bill! I was a member of the SCA for about 15 years. Towards the end, my husband and I became authenticity nazis and I sewed all our Elizabethan garb by hand. It's not hard to do, just time consuming. If you can get to a point where you don't need to concentrate too hard, it becomes a great hobby to do in front of the TV or take to the kids' soccor games, ect. There are a ton of resources out there that I'm sure I can track down, if you want. Just let me know!
