  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does your mom sew alot, or a little? How much are you expecting to pay for one? I have a total of 4 machines.
A 1896 Singer Treadle
A brother CS 6000-which retails for about $196 @ Wal Mart. Its very easy to use and computerized.
A Sears Kenmore 19010 (made by Janome)-a sewing/quitling/embroidery machine. Has a 5 x 4 field, and a really nice machine. Retails for about $1500 at Sears when on sale
A Janome 11000-Just came out in August. Sews/quilts/embroiders. Currently goes up to a 12 x 7 field. A wonderful machine, and the ultimate for people who love to sew! Its on sale for about $5999-retails for $8000 (I got it on sale, plus I was a first sale, so received about 15% off. )

Some things to consider about a machine for your mom.
If she does basic sewing be sure that you get something that has a built in buttonhole feature. That it does straight stitches and zigzag stitches. Be sure to get one with a free arm so she can fit sleeves around it. There are alot of good brands out there. But the above things to consider should be done with whatever brand you choose.

currently she sews very little. it's normally something like hemming the legs on mine or my sister pants because we're both midgets. The sewing machine she has now was one that she bought used and has had it as long as i can remember.
Thanks for your info, i really appreciate it

Sears used to sell very good machines under the Kenmore name. I'm sure they were made by someone else and branded with Kenmore. All steel parts, practically bulletproof, not flimsy at all. Usually with a 20 or 30 year guarantee.

I really like Janome. I have a quilter's machine especially for sewing more than a few layers. But Janome makes all kinds of machines.
They have a nice website that shows the different kinds. Hopefully what ever you decide on you have a business nearby that can do any upkeep on it. I never have had to take in this current one and I have had it for about 5 years. It runs smooth and even. I got a good deal on a new one on ebay. Have fun :)

I have a Singer 9920. It's awesome and I love it. It's well made, not at all flimsy...it does everything that I would ever need to do and more. It's easy to operate. And it has a 25 year warranty on it. I've had it for a year and a half now and I quilt all the time on it. Love it more than words. :)
