There's just a certain type of person in the world, yes, even in the Church, who, upon being told not to give their children peanut butter before Communion will give it to them anyway, just to demonstrate that no one is gonna tell THEM what to do. Or they may have some personal philosophy that tells them there are no such things as food allergies, or it's all over blown, and they didn't have allergies when HE was a kid, etc. I am sure we all know cranks like this and there may be one in the OP's parish. Or even innocent forgetfulness, or not realizing their child swiped a peanut butter cookie unknown to the parent. Or the children of visitors who don't know the situation. I still think allowing the OP to commune first is a good idea but since she is content with her priest's explanation, and I do *want* to agree with Rus (but also with the "not tempting the Lord" aspect).... God bless you!
