  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. - Revelation 3:1 (KJV)

Question, what is the seven Spirits of God?

I have looked at other verses that mention this, and I have found this verse:

John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;http://www.christianforums.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=364#_ftn1 - Revelation 1:4 (KJV)

Also look at Revelation 4:5 and Revelation 5:6.

So what are peoples view point on this?

Grace and peace to you,

Most people believe they are the following...

Isaiah
11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; Tim L.

G'day

Thats a good explination, but I have a question "People say the Spirit of the Lord is in fact the Holy Spirit (which is God), so how can there be seven spirits, of which the Holy Spirit is only one of?"

Excellent question. I've also heard that the Spirit of the Lord is Christ.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

I have to honestly say that I don't know. It seems like someone once told me that the Holy Spirit encompasses the other seven and the remaining one can be found somewhere else but it's been several years and I honestly can't remember.

I found this explaination on the web but please ask God to filter it for you..

Isaiah 11:2 and the Sevenfold Spirit:
"And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD."

Here the seven aspects of the Holy Spirit are defined: The first is who He is [The Spirit of the LORD], while aspects 2 - 7 are what He is.

It makes sense but I still can't say for certain...

Seven is the number of completion.

Colossians 2:9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,

Said using the seven:
For in Christ lives the seven Spirits of God in bodily form,

Now I say this hesitantly because someone will take this to mean that the Holy Spirit and Jesus are one and the same person. This is patently false. Jesus SENDS the Spirit into the world (John 15:26) he does not COME as the Holy Spirit.

God is Spirit. Thus, the Father is Spirit, the Holy Ghost is Spirit, and the Word who took upon him a second (fleshly) nature is in his original nature Spirit now encased in his flesh body. Each person is fully God. Thus the completeness (seven) applies to each. In counting there are three who are the one God. In numerology there are three who are the sevenfold God.

It's not as confusing as it is made to sound (in a feeble attempt to try to prevent misunderstanding). Just remember that in ancient times there was an interconnectedness with latters and numbers. The aramaic numbers had not been fully in place. And the Hebrew and the Latin used letters to represent numbers.

One would not try to spell with number letters, nor count with spelling letters.

It's like today, we would not think of someones' phone number as their age or how many were in their family because a phone number is not a counting number.

Hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

Good job there. Made a lot of sense...
