  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

To walk in the Holy Spirit requires sanctification.
Luke 1:
74
To grant us that we,
Being delivered from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before Him
all the days of our life.

Most all Christians are able to see the need to
keep themselves from the sin which defiles.
However, the opposite of holy is common.
To the degree that the church or an individual
continues in ways that are "common to man"
is the degree to which they lack the holiness
to abide in the Holy Spirit. This is the process
of sanctification. The apostles had been sanctified
by their time of discipleship.

John 15:3 You are already clean because of the word
which I have spoken to you.

The apostles in Acts were fully set apart to serve.

interesting timing. So the process of sanctification is the struggle between the spirit and the flesh? how do you walk in the spirit specifically? is it by doing good works more and more frequently?

A significant portion of the apostolic doctrines address
these questions. How many scriptures should I quote?
No, simply applying yourself to more and more good
works without developing a relationship with the Spirit
through prayer, fellowship of the saints, and serving the
body of Christ by the measure of faith received will only
result in exhaustion.
Consistent with the OP post#1, maybe start here?

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

I'd love to explain this to you!

1 Thessalonians 5:16-19
16Rejoice at all times. 17Pray without ceasing. 18Give thanks in every circumstance, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.19Do not extinguish the Spirit.

Right thurrr. Orrrr right hurrrrr

Philippians 4:4-6
4Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Notice a trend? Rejoice in all things, pray without ceasing, thank God for everything. Pretty practical to me.

But that's not just it.

Romans 12:1-2
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 8:5
Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.

What is the mind of the Spirit? Thank you for asking!

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.

Colossians 3:2
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

You can be sure the mindset of the Spirit is ANYTHING that is aligned with the character of God.

Amos 3:3
Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?

So what is walking with the Spirit you ask?

It is giving ourselves wholly and completely up to the will of the Father. Committing every step of our journey to the One who knows all and is above all. Seeking Him always, rejoicing and giving thanks for all things, and maintaining a constant flow of communication with Him.

Seems pretty practical no?

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;6in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Philippians 2:5-8
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:6Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness.8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross.

God bless
