This has been on my mind for the past year or so. One winter me and some friends went walking in Downtown cleveland. It was very cold, people were sleeping in the roads and bundled by two's in the city parks to keep warm. It was really sad.
I was thinking that we as Christians have a great opportunity to show love to these people. I proposed this idea to my Pastor in email today and i havent heard back from him yet.
But my idea was this winter was to get the congregation to go out and buy a bunch of those hand and feet warmers that outdoors people use to keep warm. (See this link if yor unsure what i am talking about: http://www.grabberwarmers.com/warmers.htm)
Then we put few in a ziplock bag, maybe enough to last one person 5 icey days or so. Put a gospel tract in there, let them know that this is a simple way of saying that God loves you, and while handing it to them to ask if we could pray for them. Most homeless wont reject the prayer, infact alot will cry just because you have shown them love when society rejects them
.
We would also include information about shelters and soup kitchens and indeed a church in the packet.
I share this with you because I believe it has been something God has placed on my heart (and the fact that i think of it repeatedly even on hot summer days). Maybe you guys could suggest the same to your church - who knows..
Well God Bless,
Mark
