• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been taking it off an on for maybe 8 months, I take a very low dose (25mg) as it usually knocks me out unless I'm hypo-manic. I really notice no thing from it either, except it makes me sleep when I can't and can bring me down from a mania.
Alot of people complain of weight gain at higher doses.

I took seroquel a long time ago, i took high doses of it though... but it seemed like a really decent medication, i think you will be happy being on it. It worked for me, and i have insomnia :)

Hope it works out well for you too. Take care!

I am on Seroquel and find it to be effective. It helps slow my racing mind, it mellows me out when I start wigging and it also helps me with sleep and weight gain. I have however, found that it works better in a combo rather than alone. Of course, we are all different and what works for some, may not work for others. I hope it works well for you.
Praying for you,
:hug:s and :angel::kiss:es!!

I have only just started - 200 mg - and found no relieve as yet - but I do get very hungry - it hasn't helped with my sleeping problems. I do hope it will bring some relief on a higher dose.

After having to drop the med that was in my combo, and having to go at it with just he Seroquel, I found that the higher dosage was more effective. My doc understands that some days I am a little more calm than others and some nights I sleep better than others. So, she trusted me to adjust the dosage as needed not exceeding the dosage limit. Therefore, I took 100-150 mgs during the day and 200-400 mgs at night.
Taking the daytime dosage 50 mgs at a time. The night dosage, I was told to start at 200 mgs. If that done the trick, then I stopped there. But, if the 200 didn't put me to sleep, I'd then take another 100. But, didn't exceed the 400 mg limit. I did quite well. Of course, that was only a temporary high dosage until I found one more affordable to add as a combo.
You may be able to talk to your doc about adjusting the dosage as needed. If you are on another med, I don't know if that would be possible, but your doc may be able to work something out for you.

I take Seroquel at 200 mg. At night, and Lamictal 150 mg. In the morning and Ativan 3 times a day as needed. The Seroquel helps regulate my sleep although after awhile it needs to be raised because some days I sleep fine and other days I have very broken sleep.

This is part of my new cocktail. I was wondering what people's opinion or thoughts about it. So far I have not been able to tell a change either good or bad.

Hello there!

Personally, Seroquel didn't really help with my mania, it just made me go to sleep. Furthermore, I was 20 pounds underweight when I started taking it - by the time I stopped taking it a year later, I was 50 pounds overweight. Ultimately it wasn't worth the health risks, but I was kind of young (17-18) when I was on it, so you might react differently.

We're all different, though, and you should definitely keep in close contact with your doctor, especially if any unhealthy side effects develop.

 Most of all, be gentle and patient with yourself! Regardless of what meds you take, you're still wonderful you.

Many people I have spoken with like it, while others feel like it makes them too zonked out. My experience with it was it made me very spacy the next day and i didn't get dep REM sleep, just drugged sleep. They are finding out now that there are issues with withdrawl from the drug.

The spaciness and withdraw aren't a big problem if you increase and decrease very slowly.

The first time I tried it, my pdoc at the time went by the package insert and I literally had to think about picking up each foot to walk the day after the first dose. But I changed docs to one who had a better understanding of real life dosing needs, tried it again by titrating up slowly and all is well.:)

Interesting about the whole sleep issue. Seroquel did put me to sleep but I didn't go into a good, deep sleep. I actually had too many REM cycles and not enough stage two or three. I do have a sleep disorder and when I am not getting enough stage to or three sleep, I have a lot of REM cycles (about 8 dreams a night) and wake up with fibro symptoms. I haven't had those fibro symptoms until I started taking Seroquel a few weeks ago.

I am only going to take it *25 mg, when I am way too anxious (hypomanic) to fall asleep. When I am like that, Clonopin doesn't work for me at all. I have a few friends who love seroquel.

Remeron helped stabalize my sleep, not sure that seroquel does...it zoinks me out for sure but now that you mention it I think it makes me dream tooo much. I'd rather just use the remeron. Before remeron I never knew it but I never slept well my whole life, i was always tired and didn't know why. I would sleep but not correctly. Anyways i'm hoping to get of seroqel eventually.

I've been taking Seroquel for a year now as my only med, I've been on a dose as high as 600mg but it was effecting some of the enzymes in my liver, in the last 8 weeks I have dropped to 400mg.

I take all mine at night, and on occasion, maybe once a month I'll have a sleepless night.

For the year I've been on it my mood has remained stable, and as of the 6th of December it has been a year since I self-injured.

All in all, the drug has been good for me.
