• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hmm...I think it's supposed to be good for anxiety and mania, but when I took it, it knocked me out for about 12 hours. I was on something different for awhile, I don't remember what it is called though...that also made me sleep too much, so now I'm just on a mood stabilizer.

I don't think anything really helped me with the depression, but I'm not a doctor, so I don't know what would be best for you.

Best wishes,
Mumbai

Seroquel is an Atypical Antipsychotic that is often used to treat Bopolar depression and sleep-related issues.

It is well known for creating a massive appetite and weight gain at higher levels. I currently take 300MG at night.

It is also something that has helped to get me the rest that I would lack otherwise, so I figure some weight gain might be addressed with my getting out and about with regularity.

Good luck to you.

Seroquel helps me a lot with getting to sleep, but I think it leaves me overly drowsy during the day some times. I couldn't take it in higher doses, which my doctor thinks is kinda backwards.

God Bless You,

Well Seroquel keeps me balanced along with Depakoke ER, however, I also must use it 1hr before bedtime, because it knocks me out. On the bad side I have gained at least 30 pounds on it. I wake up with such a massive appetite. :tutu:

I'll second that! Seriously, though, how'd you get off with only 30? I gained about 50 when I was on it...:help:

Crazy thing is I needed (medically) to gain weight before I started seroquel but I only gained like 10lbs. (i have eating problems so I think it takes me to the level where I'm finally eating enough to keep me at a decent weight).

How strange, so did I...I was about 20 pounds underweight before I started, but those extra 30 were a tad more than I bargained for!

Weird!

Oh well. I hope you are ALL finding inner peace now.

I am on Seroquel and I find it to be quite helpful for me. I am also on Equetro and Remeron. Due to my insurance running out and having to wait for my new insurance to take effect, my doc raised my Seroquel dosage until I can get the Equetro filled..............So, I went from 25mgs 2-3 times a day and 100mgs at night to........100-150mgs during the day and 200-400mgs at night. I up and lower the dosage according to how I feel. So far so good.

Sometimes Seroquel makes me like a zombie. Especially if I take more than about 150mg in the evening. I can't function taking it during the day.

How do you decide when to take more or less?

During the day, I take my usual 50mg in the morning and 50mg at noon. If I get edgey or jittery, I take another 50mg. But, I don't exceed that during the day.
At night, I take 200mgs starting out. If I still can't fall asleep after a couple hours maybe three, I take another 100mg. If that don't work, then I take one more 100mg.
My night-time dosage usually depends on the day I've had. Some nights, if I've had a decent day the 200 mgs work fine. If I've had an over-whelming day, my mind don't seem to shut down and therefore I need the extra dosage.
I'm one that has not been a good sleeper. The therapists I've been to have said that I haven't lost days of sleep, I've lost YEARS of sleep. And the least bit of emotion can send my mind into a whirl-wind and it causes me to stay up for a whole night, sometimes days.

When I was on 100mgs at night, at first it worked well for me, then once I got used to it, it wasn't working for me anymore and I was going through the same thing. Only, instead of falling asleep 3 hours later, I wasn't falling asleep at all.
That's where my doc trusts me to adjust it on my own as I need it. But, she gives me a limit and tells me not to exceed my dosage. So, I follow strictly by what she says and I've found that adjusting it on my own really helps.

It's cool when you can build a relationship with a doctor and they trust you to vary the dosage slightly. I'm only on 150mg at night so far so good. But I also take Remeron which is also a sleep helper.

Now the Lexapro my doc lets me adjust the dose when I get PMSy and I need extra help with the depression and anxiety.

Thanks for explaining that, Angelkiss. Many times I am one who cannot fall asleep without the Seroquel also. But, so far, when I do take it, it knocks me out very easily. So, I guess I'm fortunate there.

You're welcome
Yeah, it is fortunate that you can be on that low of a dosage and it work good. I wish my dosage didn't have to be so high, but the reason it's so high is I am minus my Equetro right now, and the high dosage of Seroquel is just a "stand-in" for the time being.

I was on Seroquel twice. Once in the hospital, and it would knock me out each time I took it, half an hour later and i would be wanting to take a nap.

Then the second time I was on it, it caused me to have these episodes where I would be confused and not know who I was or where I was and stuff. Disorientation, stuff like that. My doctor told me it was a side effect but it was a pretty scary one. I think that is very rare though. I'm just weird I guess. I don't want to scare you or anything.

Now i'm on abilify and it's working well for me. :)
