So what do you guys think of this show? So far (I'm in Layer 6) it's beautiful imagery and a fascinating concept. It's incredibly well done.
I haven't seen it yet, but it's certainly on my to-do list. It's actually the songs I've heard for it that have perked my interest, namely Duvet and A Distant Cry.

Think anyone would mind if I made a post with the English translations of those lyrics? They're gorgeous songs (especially Duvet - I wish I could hear the music to it, it feels like it has a rather haunting melody when I read the words.)

Well, Duvet is in English, unless you have an odd version.

Great show, though, on my reccomend by list, definitely. And Rah Xephon and Hellsing.

Spoilers Below:

Well I just finished Layer 13, and WOAH. What a series. Does anyone have ANY idea who Lain's "father" was? And what was with Layer 13? Yeah, I need to rewatch Layer 13 a couple hundred times. Anyone else notice that Lain ended up confirming everything her "father" told her, even though she dismissed it in the beginning? He was central to the series somehow. And what was with those two guy's laser eyes? I want an explaination.
The ending was so sad too. Arisu didn't even REMEMBER her. That was horrible

Spoiler warning: Hilight to read (Hey, this is cool)

The creator of the web "god" as he liked to call himself, was the one who believed that gods needed worshippers. Half the stuff he said was wrong anyway. Lain killed him at the end, or maybe his horror at realizing that he had been manipulated by a higher entity all along killed him. In fact the ease with which Lain destroyed him suggests that the never really understood his creation's limits or potential at all, suggesting that he did not in fact create her, he simply was a tool for her creation. Lain altered history in the end so that he never edited the HTTP 7 protocols, which SHOULD have made her existance impossible. The fact that it did not suggests that she trannscended the need for the wired, or a physical mode of communication.

I loved it! I have the whole thing of DVD. It is a kind of Cyber punk’sh bizzare story which I’m sure is a smaller audance. I didn’t quite get the whole Goddess thing though, got a bit too weird for me to understand at the end. Is she the Goddess of the Internet (Wired) then? Or of the World?

yea it def was one of the best anime's i've seen....i mean it came directly from Japan and had subtitles...it's better not to bother with american dubs...they usually aren't half as good as the original ones. The thing I noticed about Lain though is that it reminded me of the Matrix. Something like you have to watch it a couple of times and discuss it to really understand the meaning behind. I've seen the whole series twice already and I'm still learning new things about it and noticed the art work. But yea it's one of the highest rated anime on my list. Good choice. God bless. Love, Tanya

I think she's the Goddess of the Wired World. It's like the Matrix...you have the fake world and the real world...and here you have the Wired World and the Real World, however, you can debate which world is actually the real one here. It's strange also how dead people can still live in the Wired World, as that girl did who committed suicide and then started talking to Lain on the computer....*sigh* I guess that's what makes it interesting.

Or was she the Goddess? That programmer thought so, but he had no idea what he was doing. And the fact that she could influence reality so completely was... interesting, to say the least. It's nothing like the Matrix in fact, both worlds were quite real, and in fact the final episode suggested that there was only one world.

Lain truly is a great anime, from what I've seen. I've had all 4 of the videos for a looooong time now, and only watched two of em. I am considering buying the DVD set of it, though. Dunno why, just seems like it deserves to be seen on DVD. (Even though I have the Evangelion and Trigun boxsets, too, and have only seen 1-5 of EVA and 1-2 of Trigun, and I've had em both for like, a year and a half to 2 years. @_@)

Yep, Lain is a great show, even though the first episode for some odd reason freaks me out. x_X

You Guys Totally Rock!! Lain is the Most Awesome Anime Series Ever!!...I think Lains dad was one of the guys working for the "client" which was the dude claiming to be god...and I think the whole deal is that he knew she was going to delete herself and all that stuff cuz he had raised her and he knew her well enough so he like did some sort of computery thing so that she couldn't delete his memory...kinda like o.o' he was god...weird....creepy ^_^ I like!!
