  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know this may not be the correct place to put this but it deserves a place everywhere. I am suprised that there is nothing here on this sad day. The devestation of Sept. 11 has not been seen since Pearl Harbor. Our generation never understood how the people of Amercia felt when Pearl Harbor happen untill the towers fell. We read in books and see in tv and movies what people suffered at Pearl Habor and we still don't understand completely the pain of a entire country goes through with one single acted.

But now we understand. And we hope are childern never have to feel this pain.

I'm not here to put down the people who did this. They belive they where doing good for them and there god. And I don't want you to feel sad or pity for the people who died in the towers and the planes.

Just remember that there lives where taken sooner then they ever should have. Remember them and love them.

On a personal note I never felt more proud to be an American when I heard that the people in the plane going to the White House took there own lives to save an American symbol. I am in the military and been overseas and seen some things that America should never go through. But the people on that plane are some of the "greatest", for lack of a better term, the greatest Americans ever.

Like I said before don't feel sad or pity for these people who suffered. Be proud, give you love. Now we know what own grandfathers and grandmothers have been through. Teach your childern this love for human kind and pride. These people do not deserve to be forgotten like are for fathers had been.

Sorry for the long post. It a hard thing to express. And one more time.
Remember them.

Please had your thoughts and anthing I have missed. I couldn't but down enought for these great people.

True it is a sad event, but it is in the past. I think that the dead should be remembered but not the event. Despite social America belief, the world didn't stop turning on Sept. 11. Personally I think, because it was an act of war, it should be remembered on Nov.11 when we remember all of the dead from past and current wars.

On a side note, and I am not trying to be ignorant, the American government should stop playing the world police and these things wouldn't happen.

Anyway yes I am new, and this is my first post. Please don't hate me because I am beautiful... or... yeah... so anyway...

Hi, Slick -

Thanks for your kind and thoughtful post. I too noticed the absence of any tribute to those who were murdered on that infamous day, and so I posted an in memoriam in the News section.

I spent a good part of my life in New York and still have many friends and relatives there. I even took classes in one of those towers. One of my friends, Debbie, was an accountant at Cantor Fitzgerald, the firm in the second tower that lost most of its employees. Providentially, she is one of the few survivors of that firm who is still around to tell about it. After the first tower got hit, many people from the second tower started leaving, and Debbie was one of them. She said the smell of jet fuel in her office was so strong, that she picked up her purse and ran out. On her way out, she heard an announcement coming over the loudspeakers telling the employees to go back to work, that the plane crash was just an accident. The last thing she ever said to her friends and co-workers was, "To heck with this. I'm going back home." The only reason Debbie and a handful of others from that firm are alive today is because they disregarded that announcement. However, Debbie still struggles with grief and trauma over the loss of hundreds of her fellow employees.

Because of my close ties with New York, there is no way imaginable that I could ever forget the events of 9/11, nor the 3,000 innocents whose lives were brutally taken in this senseless massacre.

Oh, I've got too much to say on this topic, so I'll warn you from the get go, it might be offensive to some.

First off, I do think that what happened on September 11th was terrible. I do think we should remember it and learn from it. However, September 11th seems to be going the way of Christmas. Instead of being a day we spend reflecting, bettering ourselves, putting aside our petty differences and focusing on unity...it's pretty much become a catch all meaningless holiday consisting of increased sale in cheap bumper stickers. I'm so disappointed with this countries response to these attacks. Christmas once brought to mind love, sacrifice and the importance of non-material things; now it means candy, presents and school breaks for most people. Same with September 11th - it could have been something that meant unity, a joining, a call for peace - but it's used to sell dimestore flags and anti-Osama binLaden posters. Instead of trying to improve the world, we used this memorial to inspire prejudice and fear. It's used to justify bombings in different countries most Americans probably can't find on the map. I guess I think that if it's worth remembering at all, it deserves more then some cheap flag waving and occasional prayers that are forgotten the next day.

Also, although I feel for people who have suffered the loss of a loved one, especially an untimely death, the people who died from terrorist actions were not any more important, and their loss was no more painful for their families then anyone elses. I am very tired of constantly hearing these people referred to as martyrs, with the obvious exception of those who refused to allow hijackers to crash their plane into the White House. People die every day - young, old, painfully, peacefully, suddenly or after a long term illness. Why do some families recieve millions of dollars and the constant invocation of their loved one's names while people whose relatives died on the 10th or 12th aren't ever mentioned??

Anyway, sorry for my rant.

Don't apologize. It's a true thing, and it needed to be said.

I hate to say it, but Feral is right. 9/11 is more about looking like you have respect for what happened than actually having respect for what happened. Christmas is not a bad analogy.

That said, I do respect the bravery the victims of the 9/11 attacks showed. I just think that watching something like this turn into a Halmark holiday is pathetic and thoroughly unamerican.

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘ Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say
.

That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA!

Considering the post on 9/11, I agree with your sentiments, however please obtain a Bible and look at the 18th chapter of Revelation with 9/11in mind, I think you'll find it to be of some interest..........TOI
Of heard of some of this also connected with the Torrah. If one looks at the charts it seems to contain some clues to 9/11 as well as various other major world events especially in connection with the Jewish people. Supposedly it is also in there that sometime in 2012 there will be nuclear fallout or some catastrophe which will bring about Armageddon and the end of times...the cleansing of the earth...whatever. I've heard this same year predicted by many others as the last year of human life on earth. That life as we know it will change forever. I don't know about it. It is interesting though.
