In truth, while I do not enjoy the heat that sometimes gets generated in the main Lutheran forum, I think it would be a great disservice to split them completely. As someone who is new to the Lutheran denomination, I find it extremely useful to fellowship with others of the same tradition, whether liberal or conservative. We are more alike than we are different, from my view, though I cannot imagine joining a liberal church body.

If we were to do anything, I would push for a separate "conservative" forum, much like they have the liberal forum. But even so, I think the Congregation area is split enough as it is.

I think what I will do from now on (until someone of the staff determines that it violates a rule, anyway;) ), is to limit my comments on any subject to this forum. If there is a topic in the main one that I wish to comment on, I will quote it and reply to it here. I just pray that the ELCA staff members allow us to do that in our own forum. Otherwise, I will raise cane.

I can't speak, wouldn't try, (and many wish, I'm sure, I wouldn't speak at all) for anyone else. That convolouted caviet aside...

Perhaps some of the heat generated in the main Lutheran forum is like a slightly dysfunctional family. They either yell a lot, or don't talk at all. The yelling is (still not good) better than silence. When a member of a family starts demonstrating destructive behaviour, the other members usually attempt some kind of corrective counseling. In a dysfunctional family, this can be rather... blunt. Hence, the conservative Lutheran is trying, in love, to correct his liberal brothers and sisters. The bluntness of our German cultural background is abrasive and not always helpful in the American public arena.

In my experiance, a liberal is convinced that they are more loving and kinder than the conservative. They seem to believe that the conservative is old fashoned and closed-minded. The problem is that, no matter how much proof is shown that a liberal is wrong, they cling to damaged and destructive ideas because they are considered progressive.

In this respect, I believe that we need the central forum. All of us (myself especially) need to remember that the liberal is convinced of their rightness and refuses to consider otherwise. Consider, for instance, the threads where I got in trouble.

This is one reason that I won't venture further than our common room, just outside of here. The open forums are... too brutal for me. I must admit though. The management does seem to be overbalanced to the other side...:(

You wrote what I have been thinking. So I guess you spoke for me.

I tend to stay in TCL more than anywhere else and I do post in areas that are not heavy on theology. When I have ventured in those areas, I get upset and leave right away.

Here we have people who are passionate about their views. I think you summed it up well with the above quote.

Basically, I like the set up now, just would prefer that the two subforums be for members of that view only.

I agree with QuiltANgel. I think that the subforums should be dissolved and that the designation of liberal (moderate) and conservative (confessional) should be initiated. I do not really care to share a private forum with the liberal side of any Lutheran denom whether it be LCMS, WELS, ELS, or anyother liberal factioned group within our synods (associations). Whatever you want to call them
