Separate database server dedicated to search...

Hi

Just letting members know we've added a dedicated search database server.

I'm seeing if this would relieve some stress of the main database server during peak times.

Let me know if there are any problems.

Update: Tweaked the code, everything seems to be working now.

At the moment, the search server is handling the "Find member's post" and "Get Latest" and "Get Daily" searches.

We shall see how it copes at peak time.

The RAM upgrade is done. Please wait until I finish work to completely tweak the settings.

Be aware that the search server is not totally replicating the main database because I have not fixed up the code as yet. So your search results at the moment may not be correct.

As for searching other things... that's the reason why we have a separate search server. I will see if I can re-enable searching of thread titles in specific forums. (not posts as that would not be possible without many more search servers due to our post table size).

I can run my mouse and pretty much my computer, but this talk that Brother Erwin does boggles my mind. Whatever he's added, tweaked, jiggled, taped, glued, etc, works extremely well. This is one of the better oiled websites that I've seen yet. Everthing works that suppose to work and you can go here or there in a jiffy. Good job, Erwin!
