I guess many people miss the point of how this can then change into where jst preaching against homsexuality will become a crime.

That is my major concern. When they start up with the "hate speech" legislation, which I'm sure they will, pastors are going to have to make a strong stand.

Well, and that is the point that the American Family Association has been making, about fighting the Hate Crimes Bill, so that it cant get to that to far legislation.

(Acts 5:29 KJV) Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
God's law says homosexuality is sinful; therefore, I will decry it as such. If that makes me a criminal, then so be it. The blame is before men, not God.

Some pastors will - but we already have denominations that ordain homosexuals and/or support homosexual marriage. Those who speak out against homosexuality will be called narrow minded bigots and hate mongers (heck, they already are). Then the government will look at churches tax exempt status if they speak out too loudly. It isn't going to be pretty.

I wonder if someone from Australia could comment on how it has worked for them? I seem to remember a post or two dealing with how some preachers have been jailed there for this very reason.

This has indeed been a problem in one state in particular. Two ministers who were at a christian conference were found guilty of vilification for making remarks against Islam. Both were converted from Islam.

There is a threat that this will be introduced in our state, and at a national level if there is a change of federal government. That would mean that if you are a christian school for example and wanted to employ a religion teacher and there was a qualified buddhist religion teacher you could discriminate against that person on the grounds of religion. It would also mean you could not preach against homosexuality, other religions, etc.

I think that the UK may also be under threat of this law. I read somewhere though that were this law to get through then it would be very easy for christians to use this against other organisations. Christians are frequently marginalised by the media, and misrepresented all over the place. If, every time this were to happen, those involved were called to account under this law the courts would be very quickly backed up with cases.

In the meantime I will excercise my vote in a way that does not bring these parties to power.

Hope that was what you were after. St Alselm (I know this is wrong but I cna' for the life of me think of the right spelling) will probably be able to contribute more - it is his state where all this occured.

Yes, I get that a lot. :(

But, like Jon says, we can't capitulate to their standards. So, our tax exemption at stake? I'm not concerned, God has provided before and He will again. Reputation? They're supposed to hate us, and if they don't we're probably not doing our job.

That more fit in with the context of "hate speech" legislation. Even if they pass a law forbidding "hate speech" and that happens to cover religious language, I still won't keep quiet because "We ought to obey God rather than men."
