  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What is the Seminary like? I really don't know anything about it.

Where are they located? How many years does one typically spend in the Seminary? How many people that start in the Seminary actually follow through? Does one has to be very intelligent to make it through/graduate?

Sorry if this is so open-ended, but I really don't know anything about it. Any help or information would be appreciated.

Seminaries are pretty much just like small colleges. If you are coming out of highschool or don't have a 4 year degree, you first go to a college seminary to get your bachelors degree in philosophy. After that, you go to the graduate seminary for 4 or 5 years and get your masters (and learn everything you need to be a priest). If you have a college degree, you go to the college seminary for a year in what they call a pre-theology program that gets you your philosophy degree and then you move on to the graduate seminary.

I'm not sure how many people who start actually finish. You go to seminary to discern, not to become a priest. Those who feel they are being called will remain. You don't have the be a genius to make it through, but you can't be a moron either. You just need to maintain a C average.

They're located all over the place. The seminary for my dioscese (I'm in Tampa) is in Miami.
