CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All things considered, I think the Holy See is sticking to its position that any statement -by word or deed- that implies that the new rite of Mass is not valid is unacceptable. That's how I read the Holy See's actions in this matter.

I don't know if this is the direction you wanted to go in but:
Its pretty apparent that JPII (God love him) is not running the show day to day anymore. When I read about things like this I have to beleive Cardinal Ratzinger now has his hand on the wheel most of time. JPII was just never this heavy handed.

I don't think, though I could be wrong, that the Fraternity had any intention of considering the vernacular Mass invalid or put it down, only that they had a preference to be exclusive to the Latin rite and for this was shot down. Its either do it all or not at all it seems.
I certainly don't see that the Pope had anything to do with this.

As far as I know the FSSP seminary is at capacity( a rare thing these days) and still exclusively celebrates the Latin Mass. Any way you look at this it is a good thing.Radagast said:
