am wondering, what do you do to yourself if you do something wrong, eg: like hurt someone, but u felt bad and learnt from it afterwards?

some people just say forgiveness and apologises, but shouldn't we get punished because people get sent to jail. i knoe things like the example above, isn't as bad as like some crimes, but it is still something wrong.

what do you do to punish yourself????

If I do something wrong, I try to learn from my mistake. Asking forgiveness is always good.

I don't think punishing yourself is a good idea - I don't see any reason to willingly punish myself for a mistake I've made.

I think it's a good idea to not let the things we have done wrong keep us down. We should instead focus on not doing anything wrong in the future.

Inherent to the idea of punishing yourself is the reason why you're punishing yourself; and once you know the reason -- the action that was inappropriate -- you no longer have any reason to punish yourself. You just take it to heart and learn. Moreover, self-punishment is superfluous in a universe where God is just -- that is, where God rewards men according to their deeds in this life (as well as the next). There is no need to punish yourself (aside from the aforementioned reason) when God, whose perception is maximally excellent, knows how to perfectly punish what you would only do imperfectly.

it seems too simple to just just forgive urself though.....like the other person may still be in pain..??

i was thinking could u give up something of urs that that person u hurted is jealous of u, for example, to make it 'even'.sorri, if this sounds lame, but yeh.....__________________

if self punishment shouldn't occur, how come there are ppl who go to jail even though they do feel guilty for their big mistakes?

I don´t buy into the concept of punishment, and therefore not in the idea of self-punishment either.
I consider mistakes a necessary and welcome opportunity to learn and grow myself.
You can self-flagellate all day long - it won´t undo the things done.
I would be interested to learn what the purpose of self-punishment could possibly be? As you have said in your scenario, you have already learned the lesson, you are willing to avoid a similar mistake in the future - so what´s the point in punishing yourself?

Unless you get more specific, my answer is "nothing". If I made a mistake, I'll contemplate my options to repair any damage done, and I will try to avoid repeating that mistake in the future. That's about it.

I am glad I stopped punishing myself. I just am human and make mistakes. My punishment came from mental illness and PTSD...I am glad I control it now.

how about like not exactly eye for a eye, but give them something they ar jealous of, but subtely, not lettingn them knoe you are doing it to make up for the pain you cause them? cause no matter what u put them through the pain and they didn't ask for it???
Aren´t we trying to help easing the pain of those who suffer, anyways?
I wouldn´t think of it as self-punishment, rather as something that´s rewarding for everyone involved.
