• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I shall pray for you.

I know how you feel. I've been having the same feelings lately..I haven't cut in 4 months, but have dreams of myself cutting.

+I shall pray to God that He helps you through this temptation to cut. May He be there to love and guide you away from it.+

Dear, I'm really hoping you don't find yourself in the vicious cycle of self-harm. For me, it wasn't always so bad [the cutting itself]. Often I was too afraid to go deeper, but as it progressed and my depression worsened, so did this illness. My cutting went on longer and deeper than I had imagined.

I'm not a spiritual person so much anymore, but I will be praying for you on this one. Please talk to someone you trust very much, whether a spiritual leader, a therapist, a close friend when you feel these thoughts coming on. Keep yourself as distracted as possible and keep things you could harm yourself with out of your way as often as possible.

I'm really hoping that these feelings you have subside or can be worked out either way. Much love.

I definitely understand anger and hurt, but cutting yourself really does not resolve anything. Taking feelings out on yourself physically [that leave scars later even worse than the visible, physical ones] is not going to make those feelings go away, and if they do, then only for a while. Really, cutting is a high - a somewhat unusual one, but you definitely get a rush from it, just like you would with drugs - relief is temporary, and it really isn't worth it.

Please, please, I beg that you talk to someone you trust or a friend, whether physical or online and sort out these feelings. There is hope and help out there, and resolution can only come from dealing with these problems head on. Try calling the HOPE line [Dawson McAllister]...PM me for the number (I'll have to look it up online). He can set you up with a therapist in your area or get you in touch with someone you can talk to over the phone or online whenever you need an ear or advice. He's online too, and you can live chat with someone who really cares and knows what they're talking about.

But please, don't take your anger out on yourself - cutting is habit-forming, painful, and embarrasing/shameful in most cases. I still feel awkward rolling up my sleeves where my scars are still especially visible. Think about summer, and how you'd explain something like that to your parents or curious younger cousins. It's not something I enjoyed doing and I really wish I had someone to talk to before the whole thing began.

Whatever happens, there is someone you don't know who really cares about you and the position you're in right now.
Me.

Love.

Oh sweetie you are so brave to hold on for so long! first let me say I am really proud. It takes a lot of determination and strength to hold of for the amount of time listed in this post.

As someone who has been trying to quit for years I would encourage you to try and find other ways to let out that anger, frustration and hurt.

The thing that is helping me right now is drawing with my non-dominate hand. From a book Recovery of your Inner Child. Basically I draw what I feel not with my dominate hand but with the other hand. Then I try to write words to it if I can.

Don't know if this will help you at all or not. But wanted to throw it out there and let you know I am very proud of you.

It makes me sad that you're feeling the temptation to hurt yourself. I wish I had a magic wand that would help you deal with the anger and hurt in a healthier way. If you need to chat, I'm here for you.

Cuting is not the answer, it may take away the hurt and anger temporarily but those feelings will just come back until you are locked into a vicious cycle. That cycle is not fun at all. Just try having to answer awkard questions when people see the scars, the shame and the embaressment of this all.

Cutting is not something you ever want to get involved and sice you have been there before you properly know what I mean, please find someone you can trust and be completly honest before you get to the stage where you have to rely on cutting yorself just to get through the day.

God Bless Ya
Nat
