  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ok. I love music, and I would love to start writing.. but probably mostly poetry, since songs are basically just poems.

I have written a couple or a few poems before.. but now, I really want to start writing, but I don't know what's wrong with me. I just have nothing on my mind.. I don't know what to write about.. I don't know if I'm thinking too hard and not letting my mind open, or what.. but I just can't write..

Does anyone have some advice for me?

Well, i think you should start by widening your music varieties. Maybe you can try writing lyrics or something instead of soulfully concentrating on just a poem. I just read alot of fantasy and sci-fi, and a little psycology. I mix it together, and voi`la.

Maybe listen to some ballads. Also, try keeping a writer's notebook where you jot down anything that comes to mind. It is a compost pile of ideas, observations, etc. If you want a good intro to a real writer's notebook, get a book called BREATHING IN, BREATHING OUT, by Ralph Fletcher. I think it would help you a lot. I has helped me and many others.
Good luck

There's more to both poetry and songwriting than this. A poem is a song which contains its own music (if it's a lyric poem at least) in the rhythm and sound of the words, and a song is a combination of words and music.

Hey there ,

I like to write songs but I've found that when I simply just want to write I struggle greatly, but then there comes the times where I'm in inspired and it all just flows out. :) I find it difficult when just trying to make myself write about something but when it's on my heart, when I'm actually feeling what I want to write I get somewhere. :)

What inspires you? What are you passionate about? I'd suggest that you seek inspiration and pursue your passions. Go where they lie. It'll help, trust me! :)

In general, when one would like to start writing, one should write about what one knows about...daily life, inspirations, aspirations, the dog next door, how soup burns your tongue. Hey, check out other ppls blogs. That's another good way to get the ball rolling in writing. How did you react to someone's entry? Was it powerful? Did it make you mad? Happy? Sad? Then streamline your thoughts into what you would like (poetry, lyrics, stories, etc). Good luck and look forward to seeing your stuff on the boards!
