  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm 17 and am going through some tough mental and emotional problems. I've been reading the scriptures alot and praying. With all these family problems and life decisions it's really hard. Not to mention struggling with sin and faith. It seems lately my faith is being attacked as well. I get terrible feelings bc I have no hard evidence, but my heart tells me otherwise.

please help

Yes, I would have to agree with you. Just take a look at the General Apologetics and you can see a few atheists having a open argument almost everyday. I know the Lord Jesus Christ is my saviour and yet I don't have solid facts (other than the Bible) to prove my claims. And these people are learned people of this world, not like me. I became a reborned Christian only a few years back. Listen to God and His Word, stay true to your Faith and at the end, you'll be rewarded. Peace.

Heavenly Father, please make your reality apparent to alive in Christ, and help him as he goes through these trying times. Bring peace to his heart, and his mind, and his whole family. Whatever help he needs, see that he gets it. Let this be a time of faith and assurance of you, not a time of stress and doubt. Whatever doubts he has, answer them with truth. Whatever fears he has, respond with reality. In Christ's authority, Amen.

It sounds like you're right on track with the praying and reading scriptures. Just keep that up, even when you have doubts. I've had those same doubts, and all that got me through was just sticking with God. I'll pray for you!

(I'm 17 and am going through some tough mental and emotional problems. )

The enemy will battle our mind. The best way to overcome that is to draw near to God and then He will give you His divine thoughts. Get your eyes off of the problems and onto Jesus. We can have more than enough power to overcome whatever comes our way.

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Thank you all, it felt really good to see such compassionate people. These times are rough and hard to bear sometimes. I continue to pray. I long for the Holy Spirit to fill me. Thank you for praying for me, it is wonderful, even though you don't know me. I love you all and thank you.

Hi Alive in Christ!

Everyone has given good advice. But you said you long for the Holy Spirit to fill you. All you have to do is ask! A little while ago, I was feeling really blue. I was deeply disappointed by something in my life and I felt really abandoned. I just asked the Holy Spirit to come and fill my heart and bring me peace. And it happened. God so much wants to show His love for us, and all we have to do is ask. He is waiting with open arms.

I'll be praying that you find what you are seeking. Please keep us updated!

Just a thought on evidence....

I know a couple of books that can help you.

Josh McDowell's Evidence that demands a verdict (its quite complicate but very through)
Lee Stobel"s The Case for Christ ( this book is much easier to read but not as in-depth as McDowell's)

You can find these at many book stores.

Both to these books helped me to get a better grasp on what I beleive and why.
