  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone!

:help:

I'm a new Christian and new to this forum. I have a lot of questions to ask, but this is the most burning one. I like to write stories, and I have a tendency to use characters in my stories that are disabled in some way. I also have an attraction to guys who are disabled. It's not a sexual attraction; it's just that I find them attractive, which is why I use them in my fiction. I've sometimes heard this attraction being referred to as a fetish, which I know is a sin. I'd like to know what you guys think about me continuing to write fiction with disabled protagonists. If some people (not necessarily Christian) call the attraction a fetish, does it make it a fetish and in that case a sin against God? I ask this because I'm not very familiar with the Bible, so if anything is said relating to things of this nature or any related topics, I have absolutely no idea. I just want to do the right thing. I apologise to anyone who may be offended by this post. That's not what I intended to do. I'm just searching for an answer that will help me make a wise decision and be a good Christian.

Thanx all...

Hello!
Having an attraction to something does not mean it is a fetish, necessarily. A fetish is when it becomes an obsession, sexually, and interferes with your daily life. If writing about disabled men is what you like to do, then do it. If you start becoming sexually attracted to your characters, who aren't real, or more obsessed with them then real life people, I'd advise seeking help from a pastor or another Christian you trust. Any fetish, addiction, or obsession can easily get between you and God, and this is where it can be a big problem. I hope this helps!
God Bless.

def. fetish: An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment; a fixation.
