Many strive to maintain a righteousness acceptable to God guided by well-established biblical Christian morals and values. This is precisely what the religious Jews were doing at the time they confronted Jesus for violating their own well-established scriptural morals and values. However, Jesus said, “For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:20 Jesus also said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Matthew 7:21
Moreover, Jesus explained that, in this world, if you “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these things (all of our worldly needs) will be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 The most important thing is for us to seek His righteousness and not a righteousness based on established rules, traditions, doctrines, teachings, etc. as the religious Jews had.
Therefore, what was it that Jesus promised His disciples that the Father would send as our guide to reveal the truth concerning God’s will and His righteousness, and for that matter, all truth?
