i listen to both secular and christian music. i like both genres but it just depends on who you ask or talk to really.

secular meaning=Most of the music does not talk about Jesus Christ God etc...

ps. Shyguy i would avice you to ask this kindly in the Christian music section. to something along the lines of the Question you asked in here and see what responses you get

The first time I heard this term,"secular" music was on a different christian website. And I was wondering why do christians catorgorise music like that??? It seems like the hardcore christians think "secular" music is evil and it bugs me
It's because of a lot of things, but mainly, yes, they do it to lump every type of music that 1)doesn't mention God or spiritual things, 2)goes directly against Christian values (which is a very small minority), or 3)they just feel the music isn't 'inspired' by God, but that's just their opinion and they try to shovel it off on others without letting them make their own informed decision (and often times the ones that feel it isn't inspired aren't making informed decisions as it were; they're either parroting someone else or misinterpreted some of the lyrics).

I wouldn't say that 'hardcore' Christians think it's evil, since 'hardcore' probably isn't the right word (and could easily be used to describe someone strong in their faith), but moreover a certain amount of Fundamentalist Christians think it's evil (but their arguments are generally very weak and they build themselves a nice straw man to go up on their soapbox and preach to people who don't need any preaching). But, like I said, just a certain amount. Not nearly everyone who is part of a Fundamentalist denomination is avidly against secular music. It's just a common stereotype. I'd probably be correct in assuming that most people in Fundamentalist denominations don't care one way or the other, just like every other denomination. It's just that small portion of fanatics that give everyone else a bad name, Fundamentalist or not.

I'm sorry but I do not see the big deal with secular music. They do not praise God or talk about God, but does that actually make it wrong? I know some bands and things sing about wrong things and people should not be supporting or promoting that music. But alot of musician sing about life in general, about heartache, love, just things going on, and things that have happened in their lives. They arent denouncing God, just singing about events in their lives or the way they are feeling. And nothing is wrong with that. Expressing yourself and letting out your emotions and feelings is only human. People in a celebirty role should be positive role models b/c they do have a big impact on young people.

Well this exact same thread comes up atleast once a week around here. Oldrooster even started a thread about this same topic and how it's getting really old. Look at pages 2 and 3 and you'll see atleast 3 topics on this subject.
