  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Some possible mitigating factors:
Campaigns can spread their security too thin. It takes days for security to prepare for a convention, and big rallies on a way can make it hard for them to fulfill obligations. This criticism can be leveled at both campaigns.
Trump doesn't pay his bills. In addition to those in the video, he owes Minneapolis half a million.
He owes Erie, nearby Butler, $35K. I believe Erie refused to host him until he paid his previous bill.
I believe it affects the morale and even staffing if you fear you'll be left emptyhanded.
Will the hardworking cops providing overtime be caught in a budgetary shortfall?
Did Butler skimp on staff knowing tge town would have to sue to get reimbursed? Maybe.
Candidates who cheat the taxpayers in the towns they visit resemble snake oil salesmen more than aspiring public servants.

You raise some fair points. However, the budget and money issues regarding local law enforcement does not, in my opinion, effect the resources within the Secret Service. The Secret Service should have made absolutely 100% sure that they smartly and effectively had more than enough Secret Service resources for each and every campaign event for ALL the presidential candidates.

What are y'alls thoughts about this development here?
Isn't that standard procedure? Were agents put on leave after the attempt on Reagan's life? I can't recall. But why wait until now? Shouldn't they have been placed on administrative leave while it was under investigation?

I think that it should not have taken 6 weeks to put them on administrative leave.

I believe they all resigned freely because the failure was on them - their watch - and Reagan was nearly killed so they all resigned and immediately.

Cities have a right to charge campaigns, concerts, festivals and fairs for security that requires their departments to expend extra resources. Campaigns are required to pay their bills.
The Secret Service can't do it all.
Campaigns should work cooperatively with the Secret Service and follow their best advice.
All presidential candidates will now appear behind large plastic screens so this should solve the problem.

Watch this be the reason we finally get public funding for campaigns, making sure the people running for high office are safe enough to do that effectively.

6 Secret Service agents suspended over conduct during attempted Trump assassination

In the aftermath of the shooting, an independent review by the Department of Homeland Security showed a series of law enforcement breakdowns had created an environment that left Trump vulnerable to a would-be assassin.

The discipline against the six agents was issued in recent months, and the agents were given the right to appeal. The suspensions ranged from 10 to 42 days, according to the official, who was briefed on the agency's actions.

The positions of those suspended ranged from supervisory level to line agent level, a source familiar with the agency's decision told ABC News.
