Hello again!

In light of Hebrews 3 and 4, and scripture stating the Sabbath was made for man. The language I want to point out and follow up with a question is this:

Hebrews 3 thru 4 speak of an entering into a Sabbath REST thru faith. And explains the Lord rested from His works and implies that we are to strive diligently to enter into His rest. Paul seemed to take it very seriously explaining how Israel's lack of faith invoked His disapproval and kept them from the promise land.

I imagine they were keeping the Sabbath at the time, as tradition indicates. If the Sabbath rest was truly available to them thru the gift of faith and that now we, more than ever, are to enter into that rest, which implies to me that its a continuous thing.

Then how does this fit exactly into your understanding of keeping the Sabbath? I understand that you believe the mark comes by not honoring the tradition of the Sabbath but, considering scripture in complete context, how does Hebrews 3 and 4 fit and/affect hour understanding of the Sabbath?

The seventh day Sabbath is used all through the Bible for different things. In Hebrews 3 and 4 God is equating the seventh day with the promise land back then and our heavely rest in the future but this does not nullify the blessing attached to the literal seventh day now.

The rest they were to enjoy was regarding the promise land rest from their enimies. This is the Greek word, katapauo, which means to settle down or to colonize. The rest we get from Jesus is yet another Greek word, anapauo. This word means to refresh or rest. This has to do with the rest from our struggle to make ourselves acceptible to God by our works. There is yet another word which is the word, sabbatismos. This word is referring to the literal seventh day Sabbath, which was created in Genesis and protected by Law. This word, sabbatismos, is found in Hebrews 4:9.

Hebrews 4:9 There remains therefore a rest (sabbatismos) for the people of God.

Listen to how another translation words it.

Hebrews 4:9 So that there is still a Sabbath-keeping for the people of God.

So you see, just because God uses the seventh day Sabbath in many different ways it still does not nullify the literal seventh day Sabbath of which Jesus is Lord and who taught us many times on how to keep it holy.
