  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi guys I'm currently engaged in a debate with some right wing SDA's.
I can defend a Sunday position biblically. But I'm a bit lost on the history and church documents. Apparently the Church says she changed the Sabbath to Sunday any truth in this? I have some quotes if anyone interested.

And something about Constantine naming himself a Bishop?

The Sabbath has not changed, it's still Saturday. Sunday is the Lord's Day, which we celebrate every week to commemorate His Resurrection, a sort of mini-Easter. Since the Old Covenant is no longer binding/has been superseded by the New Covenant, we are no longer bound to the Sabbath, but to Sunday.

Constantine never made himself a bishop. He wasn't even baptized until he was on his death bed.

Hope that helps.

the Sabbath thing? yeah kinda

like, from the Early Church on, Christians just decided to get together on Sunday

we can find references from A.D. 150 that says Christians worship on Sunday
their is no clear command to do this in scripture, but it was done by the entire Church from the beginning.

never heard that Constantine named himself a Bishop?

I think the best way to go about this is not to fall into the traps
do not debate persons
Constantine had good and bad to him
debate theology
the teachings of the Church predate Constantine
anything that the SDA would have problems with can be seen long before Constantine

In Acts it always mentioned the disciples coming together to break bread (Celebration of the Eucharist), confess their faults and fellowship on the first day of the week. Agreed- Sabbath= Saturday Lord's Day= Sunday. We are not in the Old covenant anymore because Christ fulfilled the law...

Hope this helps. :)

ALSO- I will add some pagan traditions were "baptized" by Christians and later used, this is nothing to hide. :)
