What is the SDA's views on SDA on meat , health , and the OT levitical laws?

(p.s. this disscusion continued from GT board)

Hey there JacksLadder...

I've been SDA now for just about 3 years and while a vast number of Adventists are indeed vegetarian, being vegetarian is not a requirement to be admitted in the church. Health is always a good thing to discuss considering we only have one body, which is home to the Holy Spirit, and it would be shear presumption to think we can do whatever we want to it.

I would recommend taking a look at the Fundamental Beliefs of the church to get a general idea of what it means to be an Adventist.

Also, I'm going to guess that by "OT levitcal laws" you actually mean "Mosaic laws" considering that the written word given to Moses by God Himself, written in a book that was placed on the side of the Ark of the Covenant, was for everyone in Israel whether they were from Levy, Gad Asher, etc., native born, a convert or a sojourner in the land.

All great advice and council from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to His children.

If you care to discuss it might be wise to start a topic in the "debate and discussion" section in that this is the "traditional" section of the forum.

Hi,

I didn't read the thread in GT. Maybe I will if I find some time.

I will also assume when you say OT Levitical laws you meant the Mosaic laws aside from the 10 commandments.

Like RND recommended, read the SDA 28 fundamental beliefs to get an idea.

SDAs believe God is not dispensational in terms of the plan of salvation, meaning the plan of salvation was devised before the foundation of the world (the Lamb was slain before the foundation of the world). All OT and NT believers are saved under the new and eternal covenant. Christ's sacrifice ratified the New Covenant.

The Old Covenant was provisional covenant, designed to lead people to Christ. The ceremonial laws that were shadows and types of Christ were done away and not applicable to NT christians (Acts 15).

But not all Mosaic laws were ceremonial. The health and dietary laws are natural laws. The unclean food (pork and sea food) have been proven scientifically harmful to health. If we honour our bodies as the temple of the holy spirit, we can put harmful food in it and hope it's ok. It's true many SDAs are vegetarians because of the disease and the mass production and processing of meat, we have chosen the healthier life style.

SDAs believe the 10 commandments are eternal and immutable (including the sabbath commandment). They are a transcript of Christ' character and the standard of judgment.

Lastly welcome to our forum. I know it's kind of quiet here. But we will try to answer your questions promptly. God bless!

Test 1: If you love Jesus you will long to have a personal relationship with Him, reading Bible,
fellowship with other believers. (Psalm 42:1-2, Psalm 63:1-4)
Test 2: If you love Jesus you would love what He loves. Those that love Jesus will passionately
love His word and obey it. (Psalms 119:97)
test 3: If you love Jesus you will hate what He hates. If you allow God to conform you into His image you will start to hate what He hates. (Romans 12:9, Ephesians 5:1, Psalm 97:10)
Test 4: If you love Jesus you long for His return. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, 2 Timothy 4:8
Test 5: If you love Jesus you will want to keep his commandants( 1 john 5:3; 1 John 2:4; John 14:15-21)

Ye call Me Master and obey me not,
Ye call Me Light and see Me not,
Ye call Me Way and walk not,
Ye call Me Life and desire Me not,
Ye call Me wise and follow Me not,
Ye call Me fair and love Me not,
Ye call Me rich and ask Me not,
Ye call Me eternal and seek Me not,
Ye call Me gracious and trust Me not,
Ye call Me noble and serve Me not,
Ye call Me mighty and honor Me not,
Ye call Me just and fear Me not,
If I condemn you, blame me not.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 (New King James Version)

2 Timothy 3

Perilous Times and Perilous Men

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
