  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

you know there are a bunch of study Bibles but is there a study Bible written under a SDA percepction (i ask because i would like to buy one and perferbely a KJV)

I bought a Bible with EGW notes....didn't like it all. If you have superhuman vision or a telescope to read it with, it might work. The font was too small for humans, but ants would probably dig it. And honestly, I did not like the margin references to other verses.....sometimes they were WAY off, and where you were referenced to had NOTHING to do with the verse you just read. I guess the GC put the Bible together but they didn't do a good job at all.

I understand the HMS Richards study Bible is AWESOME, but I looked online everywhere for it and never found it.

Personally I like a Bible that lets you figure it out for yourself. Hubby and I just bought the Sword Word of God Bibles and they're great. God's words are in red in the OT, and of course Jesus' in the NT. They don't put denominational references in there at all. However, in the back, they go into the 7-year tribulation timeline, etc and I really didn't like some of their "guesstimations" about Biblical prophecy.

I have a good friend online that uses an Adventist Study Bible, I'll ask him what he uses and get back with you.

I lovingly suggest that you don't listen to hate websites. Adventists are hated and accused of worshipping Ellen White, and that isn't true at all. Being Adventist isn't easy and you'll have to get used to all the anti-Adventist things you hear if you decide to join this denomination.

With such a preconceived notion already, I pray that you keep an open mind if you are searching our faith. You're going to hear a lot of things that goes completely against what you might've already learned in another church. The key is searching whether or not it agrees with the BIBLE.

I couldn't believe that Lot had sex with his daughters, until I read the Bible.

As one of my favorite pastors likes to say "don't be down on something you're not up on."

I wouldn't consider ALL of them hate sites. And if I get the time I will try to read her books but i dont think I'll exept her prophecies. I've read that she did spritual books or something like that ill probaly exept that. But ill still keep a open mind. And I've been reading things from "amazing facts" online and will soon in a study guide because I went to a prophecy seminar and he hand those out (i wasnt ther for the whole thing though its a long story if you want to know more PM me) and i did the 1 about the Sabbath turn it in and like a month ago i got the first 5 pamplets and already turn them in ,i highly enjoyed them, and soon ill get my other set and i read something on amazingfacts.org about what happens when you die and it talked about "soul sleep" and how hell isnt eternal i accepted what it said you know y? because it used THE BIBLE not what Pastor Mark or Steven said i preseted it to my class (i go to a Christian School which is Baptist and im in JR. high) and ,of course, they denied it but when i asked them for scriptires that proved me wrong they just said "its wrong its wrong its wrong" they dont know the Scriptures i know i probaly shouldnt talk because ive only lately started to read the Bible daily when ive been a Christian all my life but my class mates made fun of me they started to call me a "Ryanist" ("Ryan" is my first name) and the Beleifs they called "Ryanism" when i tolled 1 of them that called me that name the most i tolled him "it is not called "Ryanism" its called "theology" he said i dont care youre a "Ryanist" i was so hurt by what he and my classmates said that i tried to stop believeing it and try to erase what i read from my mind ,but lately i came back and i know i can NOT deny the truth ive also learn more from watching online videos on "amazingfacts" that i HIGHLY enjoy and have learn ALOT and im thankful.and i will use the Scripture i learned

I can understand where you are coming from in regards to EGW.

I have seen both sides of the coin and after many uears of not being sure which way I should take her I have come to the conclusion that God used her in a mighty way to help with the start of the SDA Church.

Now I fully believe that we must be able to get every doctrine of the SDA Church from the Bible without going back to EGW and saying she said this or that to show what we believe.

I grew up just a stones throw from Avondale College (Australia), EGW was instrumental in starting up Avondale.

Believe a person who was inspired could have started that up the way she did.

By their fruits ye shall know them.

She started the health food work in Australia. Today the health food work provides a substantial amount of money each year for the SDA Church in Australia.

First of all, "belief" in Ellen White is not a pre-requisite for membership in our church. Though there are many rumors out there to the contrary.

While I am glad you are taking advantage of amazingfacts.org because it is a wonderful website chock full of great bible studies and good information, it is not Pastor Bachelor's job or any clergy's job to "convince you" to join our church or any church. That's something God should lead you to do. This is also something you should be doing with your parents knowledge and consent. I hope they are aware of your interest, and support you in your travels of seeking God's truth.

As for bibles, a lot of young people seem to prefer the NIV, in our church. I can't stand to even hear it read from aloud, but our youth seem to enjoy it.

May I ask how old you are? I pray that God continues to stir your heart, and may you continue to thirst for knowledge of Him.

God Bless

I forget the publishing house (SDA), maybe Pacific Press, in their catalogs there is a
Clear Word Bible, I think that's the "official" SDA study Bible.

Found a link, here you go:
http://www.sdanet.org/atissue/clearword/clearword.html
Clear Word "Bible" Summer of 1994 saw the release of the "Clear World Bible."

This book was written as a personal devotional exercise by Dr. Jack Blanco. The New Testament had evidently been available for several years through the Southern College Press. It was published (with him as private publisher), and printed by the Review and Herald, this time with the whole Bible. It claims to be a paraphrase of the Bible. It is printed in chapter-and-verse format, two columns to the page.

The introduction suggests that it is not for public reading in churches, etc., but what we are hearing suggests that it is already getting a fairly wide usage for that purpose, Sabbath School lessons, church school Bible classes, etc. IT has been advertised at least twice with a full-color full-page advertisement on the back of the Adventist Review, which includes endorsements from the General Conference president, Richard Davisson of Andrews University, and others. (These endorsements also appear on the back jacket of the book). (1)

That's from Http://www.sdanet.org

Careful if you do a search for "Clear Word bible", most of the hits are negative.

I wouldn't recommend The Clear Word. It is not a translation but a paraphrase, which means that it is just one person's interpretation of the Bible. The author never intended for it to be considered a "Bible" in the sense that the KJV is; rather, he wrote it for devotional purposes. To me it seems like more of a commentary with Ellen White notes mixed into the text. For a non-Adventist, I would most certainly advise against it because you wouldn't know where he got some of the stuff he puts in.

For serious study, I would strongly encourage you to read a translation, and if you want a literal one, it's fine to stick with the KJV although it does require some study to get a full understanding of King James English. If you get a study Bible--any study Bible--the commentary can be biased on some topics, so you have to read with that understanding and study for yourself what the Bible actually says to determine whether you can agree with the commentary. I like to read the Bible itself first and then refer to a few different commentaries when I have a question or want to read historical or cultural background information.

Sixthly, while the author says it is a paraphrase the format inside is not that of a paraphrase but that of the King James Bible. While most modern versions format by paragraph this "Bible" is formatted verse by verse so that it clearly looks like a traditional bible.
While The Clear Word is printed in a Bible-like format, it is not a translation, and the wording is certainly not that of the KJV or any other translation. It is a paraphrase, written in the author's own words, so I would avoid it for study.

It is true that it is widely used among Adventists, but that does not make it good for the purposes that people use it. I cringe when I hear it read in Sabbath School because the author adds so much commentary to the text--either his own or Ellen White's. It is most definitely not the official Adventist study Bible, nor is it even called a "Bible" in the title. Believe the author; it was written for devotional purposes and not intended for reading aloud in church or Sabbath School.

The Clear Word was a negative development in the church in my opinion. It has led people to think that we have our own version of the Bible. It is a paraphrase but few use it as such.

As for study Bibles, I am not aware of any proper SDA study Bible. Their is a large commentary set, but that is hardly practical to carry. A regular Bible is the way to go.

I most certainly do understand...you are following your parent's direction, and that is a good thing for you to do.

Telling me you are in jr. high, tells me all I needed anyway. There's nothing wrong with your age...that's not at issue at all. I was simply trying to get an idea of your age, to get an impression of where "you" are coming from.:)
