Scrubs is back!

I know there are several threads about Scrubs, but since NBC is treating the best comedy on television now like a hated step child, I wanted to give the two 3 Dec 06 episodes their just deserts.

I chuckle, at most, when I watch most television comedies these days, but Scrubs really makes me sincerely laugh out loud. It really hacks me off that Joey got the Thursday 7pm slot, and is being replaced by the dying and woefully unfunny Will and Grace when Scrubs should have been there from the beginning.

And no NBC, while My Name Is Earl and The Office are funny, neither of them are as creative, quirky and as poignent as Scrubs is.

At least NBC knows when it has good stuff, even if they mistreat it - yes, I'm talking to you Fox and referring to Arrested Development and Andy Richter Controls The Universe...

It always seems to happen with american TV. They have a brilliant show but then they cancel it or treat it very poorly.

Take Family Guy for instance. A brilliant comedy, a bit different but very good for an older audience. They cancelled it after the second season and then brought it back, then they cancelled it after the third season and then cancelled it, then brought it back for a fourth. The only reason for it being brought back was because the DVD sales were through the roof. It's the highest selling TV show on DVD of all time.

I never really got into Arrested Development because it is on at wierd times over here that always seem to be changing but what I've seen of it is great. Very clever stuff and a bit quirky but completely original. I cant believe they've cancelled that one.

Scrubs is quite simply the best american comedy. It is better than nearly all other sitcoms in every respect. NO LAUGH TRACK, brilliant characters, brilliant soundtrack, incredibly funny whilst making a point and some very moving moments.
I cant believe that they've taken so long bringing it back.

I am very excited to have Scrubs back. Although, I will say, the last two season have been weaker than the first two. I've got my fingers crossed that season five will top season one and two, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Luckily for me, a bad episode of Scrubs is better than a good episode of just about anything else.

If NBC plays it's card right they can actually make a decent name for themselves in the comedy department. Out of the three new comedies worth watching this season (The Colbert Report, The Office, My Name Is Earl), NBC has two of them. If they pick up a show of equal integrity, they could form a pretty solid block of shows and what they lose in ratings (let's face it, ratings will be low: people don't want to think and laugh, they want Pamela Anderson in a bookstore and average people eating pig rectum) they will make up for in credibility and DVD sales.

And as for Arrested Development: it has basically become my favorite show of all time (although, Monty Python, the Office (UK), and Mr. Show are all very close behind). As a result, I am still in denile that the show is cancelled and I am hoping and praying that Showtime will pick it up.

I've got the complete series of Andy Richter Controls the Universe on my computer. Truly, if any show ended before it's time, it was that. So good.

All of that to say, I am excited (albeit reserved) about Scrubs being back.

And Elliot is hott.

I'm going to disagree with a quibble. Scrubs is the best comedy on TV and Lost is the best drama on TV. If one were to ask me to chose one over the other, I feel it would be like asking me which of my twins I loved the best.

But my quibble comes with a ceveat, and that is first run watchability. The Amazing Race, which I think is the best reality show on TV (and no, that's not like the least repugnant despot, I really like TAR) goes up against Scrubs and, since I work nights, I sometimes have to chose between taping Scrubs or TAR. I always chose TAR. Why? Because as nice as it is to watch TAR reruns on the Game Show Network, they always are never as good as watching the first run shows since I know the ending. I've found, since I recored the first 6 epsiodes of the 1st season of Lost that the same applies.

TAR and Lost are fantastic shows were even the weak episodes have me hooked as much as ever, but Scrubs will have me laughing 10 years from now, just as I do with Simpsons episodes that aired in 1996.

Well, that should have been a final statement, but it's also why I rate Scrubs and Lost as co-equals - If I'm watching a Lost rerun in 2016, I'm sure I'll enjoy it as much as Scrubs.

LOL - I couldn't agree more - that's a wonderful way to look at it. And see thats what I think draws viewers to this show. Its intelligent and silly simultaneously. Most shows you can mindlessly sit back and watch - and almost go brain dead. But with shows like Scrubs and Lost, your brain perks up and says "Hey - what's this?"

I'm not going to act like I watch every intelligent show on TV, but I agree with every other show mentioned in this thread. I'm particularly jealous of PhilN's having Andy Richter Controls The Universe. Now I'll admit that I can watch "Yes Dear" and even more insipid broadcast and cable fare, but I want both my dramas and comedies to provoke me. "Three's Company" having it's 30th episode in a row concerning miscommunication or mistaken identity was fine for 1980, but we're in the 21st Century now... let's have some sophistication to our humor.

(After all, the English have been doing it for almost 40 years now...)

You can find the complete series of Andy Richter Controls the Universe on most torrent sites. That's where I got it.

That's also the only way I know of to get most good british shows. Spaced and Extras (written by Ricky Gervais of BBC Office fame) aren't available in the US on DVD, so torrents are my only hope of staying up to date on good comedy.


I really need to check out Lost. I keep hearing good things about it, but I've never actually seen an episode. I may borrow the first season from someone when I get back to school next week.

Do so before you jump in. There's myriad plot lines, character development and "Easter eggs" for fans in each episode, so you might not find it appealing if you spend most of the second part of Season 2 scratching you head going "what the heck?"

I known why I loved this show since it aired, but the second episode Tuesday finally cemented why I think its the best (comedy, co-equal with Lost) show on broadcast television these days. It's despite the fact that Dr. Perry Cox seems to be the Devil himself, he actually is the heart and razor wire covered soul of this show. Even the supposedly evil Bob Kelso is proving to be someone with his heart in the right place, even if his general demeaner and treatment of Ted the Lawyer seems to make him more of a vicious autocrat than a benign despot.

Despite NBC giving it short shrift, this is the best comedy on television. A lot like, for those of us of a certain age, MASH was in it's prime.
