Scriptures for times of grief and sadness

Could we have a thread of scriptures (not necessarily written out - chapter and verse will be fine) which shows the Lord's compassion for us, especially in times of loss? Those which show that our feelings are valuable to Him would be lovely. If someone would start I'll add something in due course, and hope this will help all of us when we have difficult times.

Grief and Loss is unpredictable in human life.

You would have come across many people in your life
who might have brought happiness in your life.
But you cannot expect that they will be with you forever.
Time changes everything and you may need to face
a departure which would be temporary or permanent.

Do not worry; God is there with you always,
the only person of refuge, who can turn your grief into joy and loss into gain.
The Bible says,
"For the LORD comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones".
(Isaiah 49:13)

The Bible gives us Ecclesiastes 3 (NIV)
which also encourages us to expect and accept change and to see
that there is 'a reason, a season, and a time for everything under the sun'
