  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I asked this on another site and its got me thinking! Oh NO!

Okay here it is. What makes one charasnmeetic Preachers version of the Truth correct or incorrect over another pentecostal Preachers version.

Lets say I go to one charasmetic Church and the Preacher teaches me that this is what the word of God is saying, and then the next says this, and so on and I go to 10 different pentecostal Preachers and get ten meanings. Who do you feel is right?

And how do you know which one is right?

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Have you ever read the Bible through?? Several times?? the Bible IS the Written record of the WORD OF GOD. Why do you need some preacher to "tell you what it says??"

When you KNOW the written Word, then you will be in a position to JUDGE what the truth is.

As there are countless thousands of Pentecostal and charismatic congregations across numerous people groups and with the many hundreds of questions that can be asked, this obviously makes your question rather hard to respond to.

I agree with asking God to teach you.

I also think you may be taking different ways of expressing the same truth and calling them different when they are saying the same thing. Of the preacher might be talking about an application of a truth of which there are many but only one truth.

They could both be right unless one vision does not line up with the Word of God. Best test is how the Pastor's visions match up with all of the Word not just a part of it.

I think this thing about sharing their visions is way over done and sometimes puts too much weight on the Pastor's authority and less on the corporate body of believers itself. A balance check needs to be included from time to time. Most churches have elders or a council to help balance out this. And mainline congregations have it set up so that Pastor's are accountable for their preaching to a district, national, or other authority like in denominational structures. This is for the common good and does not necessarily mean mistakes aren't made.

Perhaps what the Pastor is really doing is sharing His own interruptation of the scriptures and what he feels led to share that means for the church he is leading.

Basically though..the Gospel message and following Jesus should be everyone's vision. If, for some reason, the Pastor's so-called vision does not line up with that..there could be error and trouble.

Good question. God bless.

Only the Lord can convey and speak truth into your spirit. This is why it’s important to read the Bible on your own and pray. The writer of the Book of Acts spoke of the Bereans in Acts 17:10, saying, “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.[11] These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

Pontius Pilot essentially asked Jesus the same question when he interrogated Jesus, saying, “What is truth?” I suppose Jesus didn’t answer him because Pilate wasn’t able to receive it anyway. Unless the Holy Spirit teaches you, you won’t know the whole truth.

Dear markme2. The Bible is God`s Word to Man, and different people have different ways of expressing themselves. It is not wrong, but it can be off-putting. When the Bible states that Jesus said it, then I believe it wholeheartedly. Jesus never gives us more than we can cope with, it is always simple and straightforward. For instance in Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus tells us: " The first and great Commandment is: Love God with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds. The second is like it: love our neighbour as we love ourselves." there Jesus also states: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Nothing to misunderstand or misinterpret. God wants our Love, freely given and NO conditions tagged on. In Matthew 7: 7-10: we are told: " ask and you shall receive," then we thank God and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour.
(neighbour is) all we know and all we meet, friends and not friends) We will
find that people around us will treat us the same as we treat people. Again simple and straightforward. Love is a Christian`s great weapon, with love we can overcome all anger and wrong behaviour. God will notice and approve and bless us. We might stumble and forget at times, but then we ask for forgiveness, and carry on Loving and Caring. It will make sign-posts to our Heavenly Father, in this imperfect world.
The Holy Spirit will help and guide us, and Jesus our Saviour will lead us all the way: JESUS IS THE WAY. This is not only a Pentecostal version, this is what God wants from us, loving in all we say or do, all we advice and stand for. I say this with love, markme. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Yes, I agree with Bob. Let the preacher point out the Scripture to you, but have an understanding of the Scriptures for yourself.

I've read some threads on this forum from non charismatics that talk about topics, believing things that are anywhere from alittle different to alot different. Haven't you read them?

So, I'd say that it doesn't just happen with charismatics.
