We all pay tax, and whenever we're needing hospital treatment/operations/whatever we don't pay anything. It's on the National Health Service (if you do move here you'll probably hear people moaning about the NHS, but they're very hard working!). Prescriptions have to be paid for as long as you're working full time. There's usually quite a waiting list for less important operations but if you're in that much a hurry you can go private but obviously you have to pay for this yourself. No health insurance in Scotland!...unless you want it for private surgery.

There are some folks who will say to you that a traffic jam here consists of a sheep blocking the road. You know...making out we still live in the dark ages.

uh...I want to butt in and say that this has happened to me in the Highlands...the sheep absolutely refused to move off the road - which blew me away considering we were in the middle of nowhere with stretches of land as far as the eye could see and these guys couldn't think of anywhere else to park themselves but right on the road itself.

As Temple has mentioned, the Highlands are so laid back that really a traffic jam of this sort is nothing- ok well the truth is it was just us and we were laughing because nothing would move these sheep! we honked, we whistled, we shouted...we physically had to get out of the car and chase them off.
I got a picture of them as we all hopped back in the car - I love it. My favourite memory of Scotland believe it or not.

They are in the house which after hurricane #2 will probably officiallybe condemened. One contractor they hired said it needed to be torn down then another was saying it is only 25% damaged -- sure.... I wish I had a scanner to post the pics for you!

They are trying to get their expensive things out now (after the 2nd hurricane) before the third one hits on Tuesday. All this in a month! I worry as the roof is falling in and they are climbing through a hole in the wall to enter the home and rescue things.

They are frightened. But I think they are really going to Nevada to look at another home. I called the Chamber of Commerce and found a great place for them. I am working out the air fare, car and hotel for them to go check it out.

They still need prayer they are OLD and my Dad had three surgeries in three weeks (I think the Doctor messed up on the blood thinner as he clotted in his leg and it cut off the circulation in his leg and they went in to remove it. While there, my Dads leg was unoperational just dangled and was getting no blood. The pain he said was unbearable and if it happened again he asked the Doctor to "let him go".)

Well it happened again and that was the third operation. Then, shortly after came the hurricanes. The first. The second. And now the third.

Thanks for asking and thanks for all prayers

What you described is why government healthcare has been poo-pooed here. The wealthy keep saying they do not want just some government Doctor... etc. They say we will all be on waiting lists -- waiting for government approval.

Here, when you work your job has a plan for you and it is a benefit of the company. This is okay as long as you are employed. But even that is falling out of favor as companies say they cannot afford it anymore so it will say in the newspaper "Position: paralegal no benefits"

The world was a more ssimple place when I was a kid. It just gets more complicated as I age.

You guys, speaking of the highlands--did you watch Highlander when on TV? I was wildly crazy about Adrian Paul. He was so hot and I will tell you the Scotts became the sex symbols in the USA with that TV show.

Your teacher was correct. When my Father was about 30 years old he was working on his brothers' house in the State of New Jersey and he sprained his ankle -- I mean 3rd degree crawl on the floor kinda injury. He went to the community hospital and they told him "We do not treat people from Philadelphia Pennsylvania, you have to go home." (PA is the state next to New Jersey) My Father had to take a bus back to the city of Philly and hobble to a hospital there.

IT is a LOUSY system here. However, it seems like we magically open our purse to all the people sneaking across the borders illegally -- they can get hospital care but the tax paying citizens really need to rely on job insurance -- and without it -- you are kind of doomed.

The interesting thing about what goes around comes around, my Father was an executive at a big corporation in Philly. A few years after he was turned away at the hospital, that hospital came begging for donations from his company. My Father told what happened to him at a board meeting and they declined to help that hospital as a result. Instead they gave money to a local Philly hospital.

Last year I accidently slit my arm open with a blade as I was grooming a dog, and I was rushed to the emergency room with my skin wide open and a view into ny arm-- I was bleeding like rain drops in a storm.

They made me get out my card and all my identification before they would look at me-- with blood running -- I had to give them all my papaerwork. Then, with the injured arm I write with, they wanted me to sign my name, they would not look at me without my signing the paper... Nuts huh?

they were alright films tho... with Sean Connery in the first one.. before dying...
Then he somehow came back to life for Highlander 2. The tagline for the first film was "There can be only one", after the awful second film it became "There should have been only one!"
