Well... the article on Wikipedia doesn't paint a pretty picture that's for sure :p But as interesting as Wiki is to read, I'm sure there's more to it than that. So if you tell us what you actually believe, that would help.

As it is now, I personally regard it as any other religion, albeit a young one. New ones are created all the time, and if it's relevant somehow, it would stay, if it isn't than it would fade. Oh and Tom Cruise isn't helping at all...

I just read a book called "A Piece Of Blue Sky" which was written by a man called Jon Atack and he was a former OT 5 in Scientology (which is VERY hight level for those who dont know) and it was one of the most scary books ive ever read. It doesnt paint a pretty picture at all. Murders, Cover ups, Jail time, Tax fraud, paramilitary hierachy, Lron Hubbards personal secret service, you name it and thats not even getting into the tech (or beliefs if you will) of scientology its self which are just plain dangerous.

Of course scar_mullet will tell me its all lies becauise thats what scientologists are told to do regardless if hes even read the book. Anyone who really wants to learn about Scientology you can get the book off amazon. If fact it even talks about courses that scientolgists take just to learn how to combat people who say negative things about them and how to bring them down.

You can even read it free here http://www.clambake.org/archive/books/apobs/

Also have a look at http://www.xenu.net/ Its a website that exposes the truths of scientology and has many former scientologists on its forums telling their own personal storys.

i feel scientology is a mind controling, life destroying cult that ruins familys and destroys lives. Its ultimate goal is to make money by taking control of people lives. Its tech is usless and simply suckers people in with empty promises.

Are you evil? No not at all. You probably dont even know what you got your self into yet. Try reading the book i mentioned above if you really want to see what scientology is about in the upper levels.

I notice you christian icon. I assume you are christian that practices scientology and your local org told you when you joined up that its ok because "scientology isnt a religion, its an applied religious philosophy" And that you can be both.

If you progress further into scientology you will see that you cant be both. Scientologys beliefs of the soul and past lives is 100% contradictory to Christianitys beliefs among other things.

Im not having a go at you. I just wish you know what you got into. Hell, id rather you become a muslim than a scientologist.

scar_mullet, I must be honest and make it known that I view the religion's position in reference to psychiatry and mental illness as formidable and misled. This opinion comes from personal experience. Other than that, however, I have no significant objections and openly welcome Scientology.

Honestly, I think it's a greedy money loving cult.

After Tom Cruise went crazy, that South Park episode, and then Issac Hayes quitting, I've done a lot of reading on scientology recently. and I haven't found anything true or redeaming in it. And the whole money thing is a big turn off. I think it would be interesting to go check out scientologists and try out an e-meter and whatever. But (a) I dont want to part with my money and (b) I prefer that scientology not know I exist. They dont seem like a good group to have as an enimy.

Namaste all,

ah... $cientology.. my arch-nemesis!

for beings with a real serious interest in this group, i would strongly suggest that you research several things, namely, a person named Jack Parsons and the O.T.O. (Ordo Templi Orientis )

if you have a more casual interest, these two websites should prove to be interesting:

http://www.lisamcpherson.org/http://www.lisamcphereson.com

http://www.gerryarmstrong.org/50grand/introduction.html

Gerry is $cientologys' Salman Rushdie, as it were.

here's an excerpt from his site:

I was inside Scientology for over twelve years, from 1969, to when I escaped in 1981. For eleven years I was in the organization's inner pseudo-military core, the Sea Organization (SO). There I held a number of key positions, including the Legal Officer, Public Relations Officer and Intelligence Officer on board the organization's "Flagship Apollo," from which Scientology was managed and controlled internationally. I worked with Scientology founder and director and SO Commodore L. Ron Hubbard on board the ship, and later in Florida and California.

In my final two years in the SO, I had the task of collecting and assembling an archive of Hubbard's personal documents, and doing research for his biography. During the course of my research, I discovered and documented that Hubbard had lied about virtually every part of his life, including his education, degrees, family, explorations, military service, war wounds, scientific research, the efficacy of his " sciences" - Dianetics and Scientology - along with the actions and intentions of the organizations he created to sell and advance these "sciences."

When I attempted to get Scientology executives to correct the lies that the organization was promoting about Hubbard, and which Hubbard promoted about himself, I was attacked and ordered to be security checked. A "sec check" is an invasive, incriminatory Scientology interrogation technique using its E-meter lie detector. During my years in the SO, I had been subjected to hundreds of hours of sec checks, and had twice been ordered by Hubbard to the Rehabilitation Project Force (RPF) [1], the organization's punishment and reprogramming camps, for a total of twenty-five months. Rather than being again locked up and forced to submit to further abuse and degradation, I fled.

how deep does the rabbit hole go? research Jack Parsons and the O.T.O. connection to get a glimpse.

metta,

~v

I think it's a dangerous cult. It's a cult that charges money to help you, has you cut off family/friends who disagree with you, and says mental illness aren't caused by chemical imbalances but by alien souls... IT'S A SCAM!

Other than their claims about psychiatry and their belief that past life traumas are responsible for most human problems, I don't know much about Scientology. I've heard about Xenu and galactic warfare and other bizarre stuff, but it has always come from anti-scientology websites, so I take it with a grain of salt.

Tell us what you think about this doctrine:

ENEMY - SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.

Do you think "Fair game" is moral, and might you participate in this against a declared "enemy" if you were asked to by other Scientologists?

Your answer to my question will answer yours.

Apparently scar_mullet is a troll, since he has not participated in a discussion, or a defense, of his alleged scientology, after merely posting the topic. And I say "alleged", since he could just be a jokester pulling all our legs. And he lists himself as a "christian". Can one be a christian and a scientologist both? To me that would seem like trying to juggle a watermelon and a sharp knife at the same time.

On South Park, Stan was asked by a scientologist if he thought scientology beliefs were any more ridiculous and unbelievable than those of christianity. Stan replied "Yes. Yes they are." :D

Compared to scientology, I think even the Mormons come off as reasonable. ;)

The link I post below is to a free on-line biography of Lafayette Ronald Hubbard, the founder of, first dianetics, and then scientology. I'd say the author of this biography did a yeoman's job of interviewing and documentation to get the most accurate picture of LRH that is possible, considering how much cover-up has taken place and how scared so many x-members are of retribution if they talk.

no, it is a hierarchical structure wherein, in theory, you are trying to become "Clear".

even Lafayette Ron Hubbard didn't make it to "Clear"... he was an Operating Theatan...

it gets complicated, quickly, and most of this information is all copyrighted and secret..

Actually, the Church of $cientology (I would just use the initials CoS, but I honestly have more respect for the Church of Satan than the Church of $cientology) puts a NetNanny program on it's members computers. Linking to Operation Clambake and denouncing Scientology will keep her from getting here or receiving PMs or Emails.
