Organisms were thriving here for hundreds of millions years earlier than originally thought.

Continued below.
Scientists just unearthed the oldest fossils in the world… and they may point to life on Mars
Please note that the pretty picture is of crinoids, common in Ordovician to Permian limestones and shales. We have fossil crinoids just a few miles from where I live, although I have never seen anything as elaborate as in that pretty picture. Anyway, they were thought to be extinct but then were found all over the oceans with about 600 species out there. Beautiful. Related to starfish and urchins. No evidence at all that they were Precambrian or Ediacarian or earlier. So the pretty picture isn't really relevant to the story.

The story seemed to have two parts, one totally speculative. Pushing the origins of life back another billion years is interesting. Speculating that such life came from Mars is totally premature and bordering on silly without any evidence yet that there ever was life on Mars. I hope we can get some answers about life on Mars, but at present it's guesswork.

This thread seems to have brought out the young earth creationists to OBOB. Happily, such thinking has never been required of Catholics. Young earth creationism seems to have been invented within the past 200 - 300 years or so. Catholics are free to be young earth creationists but are also free to hold to more traditional views or more scientific views. We are not allowed to exclude those who believe in a 6000 year old earth or those who believe in an earth billions of years old. From what I've seen, either the earth is billions of years old or Loki is playing tricks on us with a world that really looks billions of years old.

Oh believe me, I'm a rock hound and have been collecting fossils since I was a kid. I knew the pic was just an addition. What I found amusing is the automatic jump to little green men and members of the Creation Museum voicing their concerns... I mean, good Christians do not post this secular stuff. Personally, I see God in creation and science striving to understand it.

Ha! Science trying to understand God is like the person who answers, "When I was 6 my sister was half my age. Now I'm 70. How old is my sister?" as 35. They just know they're right and don't see the error, no matter how much you chuckle and how slowly say it.

Well I know there is a group in scientists that pooh pooh whatever is an indication of God. But you have to give credit where it is due. Science does seek truth in the material world.

Right, but it will never come close to truly understanding God, no matter how right they think they are.

Mikhael, you are taking what I am saying too literally. Even Scripture says all of creation testifies of God. That is what I mean.
Believing man can understand God is dangerous territory but we'll leave it at that.

Another waste of time and waste of tax payers' money project by faithless scientists.
There's no life in other planets.

Aliens are simply demons disguised, all drawings of aliens revealed ugly looking beings - because they are demons.

The article did not bring up any such beings. Why are you bringing up space aliens like you've seen in the movies?

MOD HAT ON

Thread has been cleaned. The Staff at Christian Forums would like to encourage and remind you that our site rules call you to address one another with respect. I am posting the rule for everyone's review

Flaming and Harassment
Please treat all members with respect and courtesy through civil dialogue. Refrain from insulting, inflammatory, or goading remarks. When you disagree, remember to address the content of the post and not the poster personally.
If you are flamed, do not respond in-kind. Alert staff to the situation by utilizing the report button.
Stating or implying that another member or group of members who have identified themselves as Christian are not Christian is not allowed.
Be considerate and do not make another member's experience on this site miserable. This includes making false accusations or persistently attacking them in the open forums.
Respect another member's request to cease personal contact.

Statement of Purpose and Off-Topic
Read and abide by each forum's Statement of Purpose; Statement of Purpose threads are sticky threads located at the top of the forum's page. Not all forums have a Statement of Purpose thread. Start threads that are relevant to that forum's stated purpose. Submit replies that are relevant to the topic of discussion.

If your post is missing, it is due to a violation of the above rule or because you quoted a post containing this violation.

Again, please be kind to one another, as Christ has called us to do.

STAY ON TOPIC AND ALWAYS ADDRESS THE POST CONTENT AND NOT THE POSTER. Y'all gettin' WAY too personal in here.

Oh boy, there goes that millions-of-years-old crap again. *Deep sigh* I'm sorry, but I don't believe that the Earth is millions of years old. Let me just roll my eyes here for a minute. I'm one of those people that thinks the Earth is no more than six or seven thousand years old.

.

You may think that but your wrong. The earth is billions of years old. Young earth creationits are wrong and i can use Gods word prove it.

All this young earth bollocks is based on nothing but a mis-translation of of the Hebrew word Yom and an incomplete biblical biblical genoelogy of Adam of Eve.

Also, I don't believe in aliens. Aliens are nothing more than fallen demons trying to trick people into thinking they are aliens.

And your wrong again. Aliens ARE real. About time the church stopped lying about them.

DEMONS as well as ANGELS are Aliens, the only deception is them using very advanced technology trick you into thinking they are supernatural deities with magical powers.

...

OK, but seriously speaking, I also don't believe that the earth is even remotely close to being as old as scientists say it is. Dating is all a guessing game they try to pass off as legitimate and accurate. T.

Its more accurate than you think. Is not just about dating rocks. It also involves an awful lot of physics. Light proves the universe is very old so its hard to accept that we have a very old universe and a young earth.

Go on say what you think.
I already did. Seriously, nobody is discussing the content of the OP at this point. Because I doubt it has been read at all given how off topic this is.
