Scientists hail stem cell breakthrough
South Korean scientists say they have made stem cells tailored to match the individual for the first time.
It looks like South Korea will make huge strides forward as they pioneer this technology. The economic center is certainly moving towards Asia.

Bush&Co. have basically stifled funding here long enough for the US to fall too far behind. We are going to miss out on a wonderful new medical era - and some serious economic benefits. "You can't kill a life to save a life" bleh. He won't rail against abortion as vehemently (because he knows he'll lose) but he will go against study on 9-call blastocysts.

At least in Calif., Arnold seems to be doing something to fund it.

All that Bush&Co have done is to prohibit Federal money to be used for embryonic stem cell research. States can do it if they please (California has and Wisconsin might as well soon). And of course, private institutions are free to investigated as well. If anyone wants this type of research funded, then support a company that's doing it. I don't want my taxes doing it.

I bet when embryonic stem cell research leads to other scientific advances, like a greater understanding in how to use someone's own adult stem cells, a lot of these people crying about the research will be the first in line for treatments.

But there are already studies in using adult stem cells which have provided real results (unlike embryonic stem cell research).

I consider embryonic stem cell research to simply be another form of recycling. Why throw something away when you can put it to good use elsewhere? /hugs a tree

Won't the cells die anyway?? How is it killing to use stem cells that are not needed for life anymore? I don't expect that anyone is actually killing anyone so that they can use their stem cells. They are using stem cells from babies that are already dying or dead, right??
