  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Depends. What aspect of Jesus' power are we testing?

Apparently you haven't actually decided to have a real discussion yet, but I live in hope.

This question is for the Internet scientists here:

Would asking Jesus to turn rocks into bread be a valid scientific request?
The question is too vague to answer. Is it a grammatically valid request? Yes. Is it a scientific request? Depends what you mean by 'scientific request'. Would Jesus be proven to be God if he turned rocks into bread? No.

So the answer to the question could be 'yes', 'no', or 'depends'. Clarify your question, and we can narrow down the answer.

Depends on what exactly it is you're testing.

Are you testing whether you can get a response from Jesus by asking a question?
- Just tried it now. Test failed.

Since the first test failed, I am unable to proceed with asking if he can transmute minerals.

If you're validating his existence (or ability to answer questions), then yes, it's a valid question... in fact it's one I encourage. So yes.

If you're validating whether he can transmute, then this question is invalid due tot he test performed for the first part of the question. So no.

Simplest answer:
Will Jesus answer me? Valid question. (Yes)
Can Jesus transmute? Not valid. (no)

What's an "Internet scientist"? I'm not one of those.

Considering that the man Jesus is dead and no longer physically on the earth, no.

That's not a proper theological request. You can ask, but the proper theological response would be "no".

Why? Are you suggesting that praying for healing is improper? Or praying for healing from 'conditions'?

This is praying to eliminate an entire condition, one that is genetically based and involves several genes. It requires massive changes in the human genome.

What this would require is for our lives to have no meaning. Our lives have meaning because we have real responses to real situations and those responses have real consequences for the future. Our future and the future of others.

For God to intervene like this and wipe out ADHD would rob our lives of meaning. I know many Christians would like what I call the Vending Machine god, where you put in your prayer for a material change and you get your material wish. It would make our lives all nicey-nice, but it would rob our lives of meaning. It would also negate God's love, because part of love is to let people make real decisions with real consequences.

I hope I'm misunderstanding, but you seem to be saying that for our lives to have meaning there must be hereditary diseases. What is the meaning of our life here?
It would also negate God's love, because part of love is to let people make real decisions with real consequences.
I don't see how that follows, surely you've experienced someone intervening in the life of another for the better, out of love?
