  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For a while now most of the science thread here have been about evolution. I don't know about you guys, and gals :), but I kind of get bored with talking about evolution now, it's mostly evolution is fake, and no evidence, and other stuff like that. There is a lot of people here that know a lot about science but we don't really talk about other theories much.

There is so many theories we can debate on, string theory, super string theory, big bang theory, etc... I bet few or a lot of you know about 10 Dimensional hyperspace. :)

Me to I love it also. I don't really ever say anymore that we can't do anything or make anything. I think we can do almost anything we want. I think the "theory of everything" used to be just like that just another impossible thing we couldn't do, but people are saying it is possible, and probably soon.

Also Seesaw,
This last generation knowledge has increased amazingly! My son is learning things in 2nd grade that I was learning in 6th grade!

Knowledge has never increased as fast as it has in this last generation even with things like computers and such!

And... knowledge has always been increasing. And knowledge will probably increase faster forever or until all human life on earth dies.

so you have already talked about that, and there has been an increase of Knowledge for more than 500 years.

I mentioned this before. The "increase in knowledge" has been happening steadily since the Renaissance. And the Renaissance was a reaction to the Dark Ages, a thousand years of superstition and ignorance caused by.....the Church!

Aside from that, it's rather difficult to find a period in human history where knowledge was not being incresed. That shows the power of prophecy: if you frame the prophecy so that it could happen any time, you get to say "I told you so" when it happens.

The Dark Ages was caused by the economic collapse of the Roman Empire. The Church was the place were knowledge was preserved, along with Islamic countries.

Preservered... not to mention hoarded. Knowledge kept in secret is no knowledge at all. But that's besides the point. Whatever the case, the Renaissance sparked an explosion in knowledge and culture (which, perhaps not coincidentally, also marked the birth of Humanism) which has been going strong for 500 years.

Oh, yes. Monastaries, with their careful copying of books, certainly led to a great loss of knowledge.

It's popular to blame the Church for the "Dark Ages". I think it is wrong to do so; I think the Dark Ages were mostly a reaction to lack-of-Roman-empire.

And, for all you can say about how, allegedly, it was the Church's fault that Europe was so backwards... Where, exactly, did this Renaissance happen? Where did the Industrial Revolution happen? Why did all these places free of Christianity's allegedly baleful influence *NOT* make these leaps forward?

If the Church were really that bad for human learning, the Renaissance wouldn't have happened in Europe.

Yup. And started, by most accounts, in one of the more heavily-Christian areas of the world. Knowledge hoarded against a time when people learn to read is, indeed, knowledge preserved. No one was keeping this stuff secret - but no one was interested in it. Do you honestly think that, had you gone to a monastary that kept books, and asked to learn about them, they would have refused?

Just what is the "Dark Ages". It sounds to me just one more of the many myths perpetuated by athiests to try and discredit christianity and make it look bad.
