Please pray for the Class of 2004.
My darling step-son informed me last night that he has a unit booked at the Gold Coast for 2 nights this weekend, to join in Schoolies week.
Essentially Schoolies Week is when the Senior's descend on various locations and celebrate the end of their 12 years at school. It's Graduation week now, and the chaos starts this Friday. Schoolies gets a lot of bad publicity, as it seems to focus on sun, surf, sex and booze. There's also alot of problems with older men preying on young girls etc. Parents have been under the spotlight the last couple of years for supplying alcohol to minors. Here in Queensland, most of the Senior class are only 17 yrs old, and the legal drinking age is 18.
Last year was absolute chaos as NSW, VIC and Qld all had schoolies at the same time, and most of the southern Seniors are 18 yrs old. The local councils try to organise activities for the kids, and restrict attendance based on age etc, but it is one of those times of the year, where the Police even cancel or reject all applications for holidays. Everyone is on to try to keep thsee kids safe.
Please keep these kids in your thoughts and prayers as they finish this final week and start their celebrations.
Thank you
