I hope to become a human rights attorney. I'd LOVE to go to Stanford but the admit rate is so low the odds of me getting in are almost as grim as the odds of me winning the lottery, haha. I'm also planning on applying to UCLA, Pepperdine, Georgetown, and Berkeley.

^ Sometimes it's actually more fun to go to a smaller school... things like, you don't have to walk as far from the student parking lots to your class.

To answer my own question, I plan to certify to teach math at a high school level. Here that requires a math major and education minor. My Oma just got out of the nursing home and needed someone to live with her, so I have the grandma scholarship- she's paying my tuition and expenses if I go to college down here.

I want to teach because every town needs a math teacher, it's a job where I could live anywhere. That means a lot to me.

Wow, that's wonderful that your grandmother is paying for your tuition and expenses in exchange for you assisting her. I imagine it will be a very mutually beneficial arrangement in many ways.

Props to you for wanting to be a math teacher! Math has always been my least favorite subject, and this is why I've been especially grateful for the fantastic math teachers I've had who've made the classes much more bearable. This past year I took AP Statistics and was afraid I'd bomb the class and bomb the AP exam, and my teacher was so instrumental in helping me to make an A both semesters and earn a good score.

Most of the colleges I'd really love to attend are medium-sized. I'm taking classes at UCLA this summer and I love it in many ways, but it's weird being in a GIGANTIC classroom with hundreds of students. I go to a private school where classes are usually smaller than 15 people, so it's a big change.

Also, for those of you who are Christian: Would you rather be at a Christian university with lots of other Christians? Or would you prefer a secular school that's a good place to evangelize? Discuss.

I'd like to be a lawyer in the Navy JAG(Judge Advocate General) Corps. For college, I'm looking at various online Christian colleges. After high school, I'm going to go into the Navy for a few years to help pay for college. I'm hoping to get a little bit of college credit while I'm in, and one of things you can do is online college. If some way I can get a year or two off-duty, I want to go to Pensacola Christian College. The Pensacola Christian Academy is where I'm currently getting my home-school education from, and all the teachers there are strong Christians, and their academics is really good.

I agree, Artemis97. It is weird being in a big school. I had to go to an actual high school complex to take the SAT, and I was almost in a trance when I got there. I thought, "Whoa, this place is huge......and there are so many kids! And there are actual lockers!"

As for the Christian vs. secular college, I think that if you're a Christian, it's best to go to a Christian college. It is so much easier to spend every day with people who believe in the same things you do. Not to mention, in a secular school, you're constantly hearing everything--history, science, philosophy-- from a non-Christian standpoint. Eventually, it will be like you start forgetting what is like to be a Christian....at the very least it will be wearisome. There was a church my family and I used to attend, and all the teachers were preaching some pretty twisted doctrines. Finally, it came to the point where I could barely carry on a civil conversation with anyone there. Every talk felt like a battle. I lost almost all respect for those people and came home practically in tears every week. So, in my opinion, if you're a Christian, you should try to be around other Christians any time you can, especially when you're talking about education because your education has such a big part in defining how you think and feel about everything.

Oh that's awesome you want to become a lawyer in the JAG Corps!!! My mom launched her career as an attorney with the Air Force JAG Corps and had a magnificent, meaningful experience in her years with them. I was born in Germany because my parents were stationed there then, and I loved it. My dad was a physician with the Air Force. It's a wonderful way to serve your country, and if you decide to later practice in the private sector or for other government agencies your path will be paved to their front doors. I think you have a very wise plan and I wish you much success with it!

Haha, I've had similar reactions when I've been to events at public schools. I am used to lockers because my schools have always had them, but I'm not used to sprawling buildings with big classrooms. My school is Goldilocks-size for me: not too small; not too big; just right. Some of our classes are so small that instead of sitting in desks we sit around a large wooden table and discuss the material.

As for the Christian vs. secular college, I think that if you're a Christian, it's best to go to a Christian college. I definitely respect your well-thought-out perspectives, but I disagree with them. Most Christians do not attend Christian schools and they are able to retain their
faith and maintain friendships with other Christians. For many, it's simply not economically feasible to attend a Christian K-12 school or a Christian college because of the additional costs that are typically involved. I attended an Episcopalian school for a few years when we lived in DC, but the majority of my education has been at nonsectarian private schools. Christians are in the minority at my school (most are humanists or Jewish) and this has actually enriched my faith in so many ways. Learning about the personal beliefs of my friends helps me to give deeper consideration to my own. Many kids at my school have preconceived false notions about Christians - that we're intolerant, judgmental, narrow-minded, anti-science, and they've said that actually seeing Christians on a daily basis who counter those stereotypes helps them to have a better perception of Christianity as a whole. I've been able to subtly share my beliefs in Christ's teachings through my actions. Several friends from my school and my dance studio now attend youth events at my church regularly.

I definitely plan on attending a secular university but being involved in a church and on-campus Christian ministry. That is what my brother has done. As with my school, Christians are in the minority at his college, which is why it's imperative
that more of us strive to go there and keep the flames of faith burning. Also,
I'll be attending law school and then working in a secular field with colleagues of various religious and spiritual beliefs, and I need to be socially and academically prepared.

Thank you very much!!!! That is so cool both your folks were in the AF!!! No one in my immediate family is in the military, but my uncle was in the Navy, my grandpa served in WWII in the Army, and I have a good friend who's going into the USMC.

Well I must say I'm very glad to hear that!!!! I suppose it also depends on what kind of person you are too, as to whether you can stay strong in secular environments. I admire you!!

Pre-Calculus is what I'm taking in the fall. I'll do Calc 1 in the spring... so you're doing pretty close to the same math I'm doing even though you're two years younger. I admire that!

Physics is the MOST FUN course I've ever taken! I hope you like it too. I really enjoyed it because it showed me how all the math I'd learned over the years was actually useful. Some of the experiments are fun too.

The biggest tip I can give you for physics is to keep your work neat and avoid sloppy errors. The math isn't hard, but things get confusing really fast if you drop a negative or something like that. Also, always keep your units in your work. You're more likely to catch a mistake if you divide your units the whole way than if you get to the end and decide that since this is speed, it should be m/sec.

Thank you!!!! I find physics a very interesting subject!!!! Although my teacher this year is not quite that good. I had him last year for chemistry. He's just okay; he doesn't really know how to present the material in a dynamic manner. But the material itself is fascinating!!!!!

You took pre-calculus in 10th?!!! COOOOOOL!!!!! I took Algebra 2 in 10th. Loved it!!!! Then I got to geometry in 11th, and I was a bit overwhelmed. Geometry requires a bit different mentality than algebra. But then I ended up loving it!!!! And my teacher for it was awesome!!! I have him again this year for pre-calculus.
